Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Wednesday morning

Good morning! Here are 10 things you need to know this morning:

1.The All Progressives Congress will on Thursday appoint its 2015 presidential candidate. Report says over 8,000 accredited delegates are expected to elect the party’s presidential candidate who will contest against President Goodluck Jonathan.

2. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has boasted that it will defeat any presidential candidate that emerges from the opposition All Progressives Party, challenging who ever emerges victorious at its primaries that will hold to tomorrow to a debate on competence assessment. The party boasted through its publicity secretary, Olisa Metu.

3. Despite the court order restraining former President, Olusegun Obasanjo from publishing his three-part autobiography titled ‘’My Watch’’ , Obasanjo on Tuesday presented the book,, arguing that Justice Valentine Ashi of the Federal High Court, Wuse, Abuja was wrong by granting an injunction restraining him from publishing the book, saying the presentation of the book did not contravene the law.

4. The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress said it will not congratulate the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, because the primary election that saw him emerging as the PDP Governorship flagbearer was manipulated. The publicity secretary of the party, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, said the APC would not want to encourage such dubious and undemocratic act.

5. Following the controversial Lagos state PDP governorship primaries, a leading aspirant, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro has called for the cancellation of the result, terming the exercise a sham. While speaking at his GRA office shortly after the primaries, Obanikoro stressed that he will fight to ensure that the election is nullified.

6. An Islamic scholar, Sheik Abubakar Gumi, has accused the Head of the Shiite Islamic sect in Nigeria, Mallam Ibraheem El-Zakzakky, of being a bad influence on fellow Muslims in the country, saying that he was a candidate for hell unless he repented.

7. An Islamic scholar, Sheik Abubakar Gumi, had in a condolence letter sent to the Head of the Shiite Islamic sect in Nigeria, Mallam Ibraheem El-Zakzakky over the death of his children accused him of being a bad influence on Muslims in the country. He cautioned that unless he (El-Zakzakky) repents of his sins, his place would be hell. He further accused him of introducing a lot of bad innovations among Nigerian Muslims.

8. Chairman of organisation and Mobilisation committee of the People’s Democratic Party in South West, Prince Buruji Kashamu has said that he would drag former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and others who assisted him in the launch of his autobiography; My watch to court, for failing to heed to court order. Kashamu made this known in a press statement.

9. The Comptroller-General of Prisons, Dr. Peter Ekpendu, has ordered the immediate suspension of the Comptroller of Prisons, Niger State Command, Musa Maiyaki. Also suspended was the Officer-in-Charge of the Medium Security Prison, Minna, Mohammed Bena; and all the other officers on duty during the December 6, 2014 jailbreak at the Minna Medium Security Prison.

10. The Presidency on Tuesday said that being a good christian, President Jonathan was not desperate for power, and had no intention of postponing the 2015 General election. Reacting to the speculations that he was doing everything to ensure the the 2015 election is shifted, Senior Special Adviser to President Jonathan on public affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, described the claim as “idiotic”. He insisted that Jonathan’s achievements would speak for him in the coming 2015 election.
