1. No fewer than thirty-four persons were reportedly killed on Tuesday by armed bandits in Katsina State. The bandits invaded three Local Governments Areas of Batsari, Danmusa and Faskari in Katsina State. Locals said 18 were killed in Yargamji in Batsari LGA, 5 killed in Mara Zamfarawa in Danmusa LGA and 11 were killed in Sabon Layi village of Faskari LGA. Scores were said to have sustained injuries.
2. President Muhammadu Buhari has returned to Abuja, after performing the lesser Hajj at the invitation of the King Salman of Saudi Arabia. Buhari who returned to the country Tuesday evening had gone to perform the lesser hajj alongside his wife, associates and aides. He also held iftar dinner meetings with prominent Nigerians, including Bola Tinubu, a national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
3. Two former aides to the Minister of Communications, Barrister Adebayo Shittu, on Tuesday dragged the minister before an Abuja Division of the National Industrial Court (NIC) over twenty-one million, five hundred thousand Naira (N21,500,000.00) unpaid salaries and allowances. They were former Personal Assistant to the minister, Razaq Olubodun and Special Assistant on Media, Victor Oluwadamilare. They are praying the court to order the payment of their outstanding salaries and allowances which the Minister allegedly denied them while serving under him.
4. The Imo State governor-elect, Emeka Ihedioha, has said that the outgoing governor, Rochas Okorocha has not released money for his inauguration on May 29 as claimed. Ihedioha stated this in a press release issued by the secretary of his inauguration and handover committee, Ray Emeana.
5. The Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Mr Ahmed Idris, on Tuesday said the Federal Government shared N616.19 billion as revenue generated in April to the three tiers of government. The amount showed a decrease of about N1.37 billion from what was shared in March. Idris, represented by the Director of Funds, Office of the AGF, Mr Mohammed Usman, said this at a news conference at the end of the monthly Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) meeting in Abuja.
6. Labour unions in the nation’s aviation sector, on Monday said they will from May 22 begin an indefinite industrial action over the new organogram approved by the Federal Government. The unions issued a Notice of Strike Action against the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) on Tuesday in Lagos. The unions are Air Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) and the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE). Others are the Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals (ANAP) and the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE).
7. Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has given a seven-day ultimatum to four councils administrators and traditional rulers where 15 Fulanis were killed to fish out the perpetrators or risk losing their positions for ineptitude. Governor Bello, who gave the order during a security stakeholders’ meeting held in Government House Lokoja on Tuesday, lamented that the killings happened in Yagba West, Omala, Dekina and Igalamela Odolu Local Government Areas, adding that his administration will not condone killings of any citizen in the State.
8. The Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has warned the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, to strictly adhere to the mandate of the commission and not be a tool in the hands of politicians. This follows Magu’s declaration that Okorocha was under the watchlist of the EFCC.
9. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Tuesday berated the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, for allegedly resorting to hauling insults against the opposition party to curry political relevance. It also alleged that Tinubu was ostensibly attacking the PDP for his selfish pecuniary interests. PDP spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan said this in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja.
10. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ilorin Zonal Office has commenced investigations into the alleged illegal payment of about N400million to some members of the Kwara State House of Assembly and the State Executive Council members before the expiration of their tenures. The commission, in a statement, said it is “currently interrogating the Secretary to the State Government, Sola Isiaka Gold and the Clerk of the State House of Assembly, Kperogi Halimat Jummai over the alleged payment which did not follow due process.’’
