Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Wednesday morning

Good morning! Here are 10 things you need to know this morning:

1. The office of the National Security Adviser, NSA, has accused the international community of being biased in its assessment of government’s approach to the fight against terrorism and the Nigerian media of not being patriotic in its reportage of the ongoing war against insurgency.

2. Contrary to insinuations at some quarters that soldiers from other countries were moving into Nigeria without authorization to confront the insurgents, the Defense Headquarters has insisted that the Nigerian forces were in charged of all interventions by external forces. The Defence authorities stated this in a statement posted on its official website.

3. A factional wing of Ohaneze Ndigbo, on Monday endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election. In a meeting held at its National Secretariat in Enugu, the group said the interest of the Igbos would be more protected under the Presidency of Jonathan, hence the need to rally round him.

4. Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has raised a fresh allegation against the Peoples Democratic Party, alleging that the party has bribed some Christian religious leaders with N6bn to campaign against the All Progressives Congress and its presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) He said those religious leaders have been circulating fake documents , alleging that Buhari will islamize Nigeria.

5. The Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, General Muhammadu Buhari has promised Nigerians that there would be no hiding place for elected officials who engage in corrupt practices under his government as they will be punished accordingly. Buhari gave the assurance at the presidential rally held at the Pantami International Stadium, Gombe.

6 President Goodluck Jonathan, has said that he has done justice to all the promises he made while taking over office in 2011, affirming that he has even gone beyond his target as the Federal Government would soon come up with an automobile policy that would ensure that vehicles are assembled in the country. Jonathan spoke in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, during the PDP presidential campaign rally.

7. The Presidency has said it was worried over the continuous attacks on the person of President Goodluck Jonathan in the Northern part of the country. Special Adviser to the President on Inter-Party Affairs, Ben Obi, while speaking with newsmen on Tuesday evening in Abuja said it will be very dangerous for the country if they are not properly checked.

8. Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu, on Tuesday rubbished the claim that he had sympathy for the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress. He said the claim was wrong as Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) truncated his (Aliyu’s) political ambition in 1983.

9. A former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, on Tuesday came to the rescue of Finance Minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala over the allegation of missing funds under her, saying Soludo was wrong as it was impossible for N30 trillion to be ‘missing’ from nation’s treasury.

10. A Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed February 11 for the hearing of a new suit requesting for an order to declare President Goodluck Jonathan unfit to contest in the February 14 poll.
