1. One of the judges currently under investigation, Justice John Inyang Okoro of the Supreme Court has alleged that he was being victimized due to his refusal to do the wish of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in election appeal cases as it concerned Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Abia States. In a letter to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, he alleged that former Rivers Governor and now transport minister, Rt. Hon Rotimi Amaechi specifically visited him and asked that the judgment be delivered in APC’s favour.
2. Report says the son of late Ogoni activist and former Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan, Ken Saro-Wiwa Jr. is dead. Saro-Wiwa Jr. reportedly died on Tuesday after a brief illness.
3. A prosecution witness, Teslim Ajuwon, on Tuesday testified at a Federal High Court in Lagos that NIMASA fraudulently transferred N8.5 billion into the account of the military Joint Task Force in the Niger Delta –“Operation Puelo Shield,’’within nine months. Ajuwon, a compliance officer with a first generation bank, testified at the commencement of trial of a former JTF Commander, retired Maj.-Gen. Emmanuel Atewe.
4. The Nigerian Army, Tuesday announced that some its soldiers have been declared missing following Boko Haram attack on their location at Gashigar, a border area with Niger Republic in the northern part of Borno State. Spokesman of the Nigerian Army, Colonel Sani Usman, Tuesday, said 13 soldiers sustained injuries while some were missing in action.
5. The wife of former Minister, Chief Fani Kayode, Precious has further debunked the allegation by the EFCC that N2.4 million was in her Access bank account that was suspended by the commission. In a statement regarding the matter, she said only N295,000 was in the account when she attempted to withdraw on Monday, alleging that the EFCC lied in its Tuesday press statement.
6. The Federal Government on Tuesday appointed two new Directors for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN. The new directors who are to replace the recently sacked ones are Mrs. Nike Aboderin, who is now the Director of Finance and Accounts (DFA), and Mr. Sadiku Abdulkadir Rafindadi, Director of Commercial and Business Development (DCBD).
7. A Nigerian Army Court Marshal, Tuesday sentenced one Staff Sergeant, Umar Sale to three years imprisonment for causing bodily harm to a male teenager in Maiduguri who he allegedy tied to a stake, alleging that he stole his money. In his ruling in Maiduguri on Tuesday, the President of the court, Brig.-Gen. Olusegun Adeniyi, said the convict would also be demoted to private as part of his punishment.
8. The Senate, Tuesday, approved the nomination of Justice Ejembi Eko and Justice Amina Augie as members of the Bench at the Supreme Court of Nigeria. In an electronic votes conducted by the Senators on Tuesday, a total of 38 Senators voted in support of Justice Ejembi Eko while only 1 Senator voted against him. Relatively, 39 votes were recorded for Justice Amina Augie while one vote was invalid.
9. One of the judges currently being investigated by the Nigerian government over allegation of corruption, Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court, Abuja, Tuesday withdrew from the trial of former National Security Adviser, NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki(rtd). Ademola cited allegations of corruption levelled against him by the DSS, as the reason for his withdrawal.
10. A Federal High Court in Abuja has sacked two members of the House of Representatives from Enugu State. The sacked PDP legislators, are Stella Ngwu representing Igbo-Etti/Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency and Mr. Dennis Agbo representing Igbo Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency. Justice Okon Abang delivered separate judgments in sacking the two legislators on Friday but the enrolled orders of the court were certified on Tuesday.
