Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Wednesday morning

1. The widow of the First Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, Late Diepreye Solomon Alameisegha-Magareth, has exonerated the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, from the events which led the death of her husband

She blamed the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the death of her husband, claiming that the ordeal which led to his death started with his removal from office, arrest, trial and seizure of his properties by the leadership of the PDP.

2. The acting National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Comrade Timi Frank has strongly warned that unless President Muhammadu Buhari takes urgent action, the ruling party would crumble by January 2017.

According to him, several realignments were currently going on in Nigeria, which could make the APC cease to exist totally by 2019.

3. The Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Garba-Deen Muhammad, has announced that there was no plan to hike the pump price of petrol.

The commission, however, said it would sustain the tempo of petroleum products supply throughout the ember months and beyond at the current rate of N145 per litre.

4. The Deputy Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi on Tuesday also defected to the All Progressives Congress from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, alongside the Member representing Mikang Constituency, Daniel Nanlong.

The Deputy Speaker, Hon. Gagdi, who represents Kantana constituency in the House explained that he decided to dump the PDP because most of his supporters were in the APC.

5. The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Tuesday, rejected Justice Binta F.M Nyako as the new trial judge of its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

IPOB’s spokesman, Comrade Emma Powerful, in a statement claimed that Kanu would not get justice if tried by Justice Nyako, whom he claimed is a sister to President Muhammadu Buhari.

6. The Senate has asked the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to urgently move baggers off the major streets in Abuja.

In a motion moved by Senator Isa Misau (Bauchi Central) on Tuesday, the Senate also urged the government at all levels to provide articulate policies to reintegrate ALMAJIRIS into the educational system, thereby discouraging them from being used for street begging.

7. The Senate, Tuesday, passed a motion for the reintroduction of toll gates on Federal roads across the country.

The motion, which was entitled, ‘Need for the Re-establishment of Toll Gates On Our Federal Highways,’ was sponsored by the Senator representing Bauchi-North Senatorial District, Suleiman Nazif.

8. Former President Goodluck Jonathan has claimed that embattled former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki, who served under him did not steal $2.2 billion as being claimed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Responding to questions after his lecture on Youth Entrepreneurship at the famous Oxford Union in the United Kingdom, former President Goodluck Jonathan, said: “he doesn’t believe somebody can just bolt away with $2.2 billion.

9. The Niger Delta militants resumed their hostilities on Tuesday, blowing up an export line operated by Chevron Nigeria Limited at Escravos in the Warri South West Council Area of Delta State.

The attack, which the Niger Delta Avengers, claimed responsibility for, occurred at about 3:45am.

10. President Muhammadu Buhari has urged the National Assembly to approve his administration’s external borrowing plan of $29.96bn for the execution of key programmes and infrastructural projects across the country. The sum, according to him, if approved, will be spent on projects in this year’s budget and up till 2018.
