1. The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Idris Ibrahim, has justified the killing of 15 Shiites members in Kano by his men. Addressing State House Correspondents at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday, the Police boss explained that the police opened fire on the Shiite members in self defence, adding that members of the sect were armed to teeth and his men couldn’t allow them to finish them without putting up a defence.
2. The Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Danbazau (retd.) said yesterday that a former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), declined an offer to visit his late father, Ibrahim Dasuki, in an Abuja hospital. Danbazau also disclosed Sambo declined another offer to be in Sokoto to mourn and bury his late father, saying he prefers to pray for him.
3. The Senate on Tuesday confirmed the list of career Ambassadors sent by President Muhammadu Buhari. The confirmation did not, however, occur without lambasting of some nominees who could not recite the Nigerian Anthem and National Pledge during their screening recently.
4. The Senate on Tuesday rejected the list of the Non-Career Ambassador sent to it by the President, saying it could not confirm the list due to the several petitions it had received regarding the list. It said over 250 petitions were received from aggrieved Nigerians regarding the list.
5. The Central Bank of Nigeria, is proposing to criminalize possession of foreign currency for more than 30 days, without depositing it in a bank. This is contained in a document called the ‘Working Paper’, where the apex bank is requesting for new amendments to the Foreign Exchange, Monitoring and Miscellaneous Exchange Act (FEMM). The Working Paper has already been shared to members of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) and has also been uploaded to the website of the Nigerian Law Reform Commission.
6. Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai has replied former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar on comments the latter made accusing him of corruption. El-Rufai in a response said Atiku was haunted by his corrupt demons. He dared Atiku to tell the world why he is avoiding the United States of America, if he claiming he is not corrupt.
7. The Niger Delta Avengers, on Tuesday announced a fresh attack on three crude oil pipeline in Bayelsa State. In a statement by its spokesperson, Mudock Agbiniho, the group said the pipelines operated by Agip, Oando and Shell were blown up at about 11.45pm by its Elite Strike team. Warning that there are dangerous days ahead, the group said it is determined to continue the war, until the Federal Government decides to commence genuine negotiations on how to resolve the crises in the region.
8. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has confirmed ongoing surveillance on the MMM investment scheme, but said it has no evidence to arrest people behind the scheme as they are faceless. EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, said that The anti-graft agency was also watching other online schemes that promise huge returns on investments. He warned Nigerians to desist from investing in what will eventually crash.
9. Popular Yoruba actress, Kudirat Ajimati, is dead. She died in the early hours of Tuesday. The news of her death was confirmed by the Theatre Arts and Movie Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN),Ogun State chapter. This is also as another actress, Ansa Bassey Kpokpogri is said to have died. The Calabar-born mother of one reportedly died of peptic ulcer.
10. In sports, former Nigeria international, Victor Ikpeba, has advised John Mikel Obi to quit Chelsea, so he can get more playing time. Ikpeba has advised Mikel to save his career by leaving Chelsea to a club he will be regular in the pitch of play. He said he observed that Mikel Obi was too tired during Nigeria’s 3-1 win over Algeria recently in Uyo, saying the solution was for him to play regularly in his club.
