1. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has stated that the next President of Nigeria should come from the South-Eastern part of Nigeria.

According to him,‎ the issue of injustice and marginalization have been a major source of conflict between ethnic and regional divisions in the country.

2. Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, Wednesday morning foiled an attempt by the Department of State Services (DSS), to arrest Apostle Johnson Suleiman of the Omega Fire Ministries in Ado Ekiti.

Men of the DSS trailed Suleiman, who was in Ekiti for a two-day crusade, to his hotel after visiting the Government House but could not arrest him due to Fayose’s resistance.

3. Freedom has finally come the ways of the kidnapped students and staff of the Nigerian-Turkish school in Ogun State.

Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who made the disclosure in a statement Tuesday night, said the victims were rescued unhurt from the kidnappers’ den.

4. Dr Chike Obidigbo, Chie Raph Okeke, Dr Ifeanyi Ubah, Chief Tony Nwoye, Sen. Uche Ekwunife, Sen. Andy Ubah and Prince Donatus Okonkwo have indicated interest to fly the APC flag in the forthcoming Anambra State governorship election.

The other aspirants included Chief George Muoghalu, Chief Barth Nwibe, Mr. Obinna Okonkwo, Chief Paul Chukwuma and Chief Obinna Uzor.

5. The people of Agatu on Tuesday, petitioned House of Representatives, asking for a reversal of the obnoxious decision by the Benue state government to cede a portion of their land to herdsmen in the community.

In a petition dated 23rd January, 2017 and submitted by the Member representing Apa/Agatu federal constituency, Hon. Adamu Entonu, the people described as “dangerous and despicable transaction”, the purported agreement signed by those whom they refered to as “fake” and “irrelevant” stakeholders, on behalf of Agatu community.

6. President Muhammadu Buhari has cleared EFCC boss, Mr. Ibrahim Mustapha Magu and the Secretary to the government of the Federation, Engr. Babachir Lawal of corruption.

In the letters sent to the Senate and which was read by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Buhari said he had thoroughly investigated those allegations as contained in the DSS report against Magu and Secretary to the government of the Federation, Engr Babachir Lawal.

7. Former Vice President of the World Bank for Africa, Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili, has described the economic policies of the government as “confusing”.

According to her, despite the confusion and “wrong things” going on, the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration remains “adamant” and not ready to change, citing the government’s monetary and fiscal policies as key areas of denial of “empirical evidence” and called for structural reforms and better citizen engagement.

8. The national leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Tuesday, condemned the killing of defenceless members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, as well as the charging of survivors to court for treason by security agents in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

The group’s President, General, Chief John Nwodo in a statement noted that the Federal Government had adopted discriminatory methods in treating issues affecting Boko Haram members, Niger Delta Avengers, Fulani herdsmen and OPC, describing the action as unfair.

9. The House of Representatives, on Tuesday, asked its committees on Anti-Corruption, Environment and Habitat to investigate former President Gooodluck Jonathan’s “Clean Stove For Rural Women scheme”, a contract of about N9.287 billion.

The resolution followed a motion by Rep. Abiodun Faleke (APC-Lagos), which was unanimously adopted by members through a voice vote.

According to him, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) had approved a contract for the supply of 20 million units of clean stoves, under the clean stove scheme for rural women.

10. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Caretaker Committee Chairman and former Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, yesterday, expressed fears that if the violence in Southern Kaduna between herdsmen and natives of the area was not curbed, it may spread over the entire country.

Makarfi said the upheaval that erupted in Southern Kaduna, which has resulted to loss of lives and properties is unfortunate and that both government and people from the area must not politicise the issue.
