1. Nigerians yesterday joined the rest of the world to mark this year’s St. Valentine’s Day. The day is set aside for lovers to spend time together, reflect on their journey so far as well as show love to others.
2. Elder statesman and a former board of trustees’ chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tony Anenih, has called on the former ruling party to forget the presidency until after President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure.
Anenih noted that it was very shameful for members of the party to be fighting for the presidency and other elective positions when its house was in disorder.
3. Hundreds of protesters on Tuesday besieged an arm of the Presidential villa in demonstration against some persons they accused of trying to derail the administration.
The protesters, who commenced the march from the Unity Fountain, on getting to the Presidential Villa chanted that, “Nigeria can only change when we support the government and do our bit and not allow ourselves to be used as agents of destruction and political thuggery”.
4. The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB has stated that it would soon commence the sale of the application form for the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The body’s Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, who made this announcement on Tuesday said an estimated 1.7 million candidates are expected to register and sit for the Computer Based Test (CBT) across the country.
5. US President Donald Trump has confirmed speaking with President Muhammadu Buhari by telephone.
The White House Press Secretary and Communications Director, Sean Michael Spicer, who made this known on Tuesday in his introduction of White House Press Briefing, mentioned that President Trump on Monday spoke with President Buhari of Nigeria and President Jacob Zuma of South Africa.
6. Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has vowed that the federal government would not hesitate to punish contractors who collect mobilization fees for projects in oil-producing communities and abscond thereafter.
According to Osinbajo, there was no reason contracts and projects meant for oil-producing communities should be diverted elsewhere, noting that the government would use the relevant anti-graft agencies to ensure that those projects were completed and handed over to the communities.
7. Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has described his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi as a Lucifer who needs psychiatrist attention.
Wike said Amaechi milked the state dry as the governor and left it in shambles for federal appointment.
8. Embattled airline, Arik Air has suspended flights to London and Johannesburg.
Jude Nwauzor, the spokesperson of the Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON), who confirmed this development, explained that the suspension will help them find lasting solution to Arik’s problems, after carrying out a thorough assessment.
9. The Presidency has claimed the nation’s economy, which is currently in comatose, is currently on course for recovery and growth.
According to the 23rd newsletter published by the Presidency Office of Digital Engagement, the Presidency said there were 11 reasons to prove that the nation’s economy was gradually coming out of recession.
