1. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Tuesday carried out wholesale interventions in the interbank FOREX market by providing a total sum of $370,810,810.79 to 23 banks to meet the visible and invisible requests of customers. Acting Director, Corporate Communications Department, CBN, Mr. Isaac Okorafor, said the Bank’s intermediation in the Forex market was the first wholesale intervention aimed at easing the pressure of access to forex by Nigerians.
2. President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday gave Nigerians reasons why he needed longer time to rest in the United Kingdom. He said the series of tests carried on him by his doctor, showed that he needs more time to rest. The president who said there was no cause for alarm, thanked Nigerians for praying for him.
3. Report says the death toll in the recent herdsmen attacks on four villages in southern Kaduna has risen to 26. The attacks were carried out in Kaura and Jema’a local government areas. A group, Atakad Development Association, confirmed the recovery of four more corpses and the death of another victim.
4. The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohaneze Ndigbo has stated that it is working towards having a Nigerian President of Igbo extraction. The President of Ohaneze Ndigbo in Anambra, Mr Damian Okeke-Ogene, who made this statement on Tuesday, said, the Chief Nnia Nwodo-led executive of the organization would look into many problems facing the south east geopolitical, including producing a Nigerian President of Igbo extraction.
5. The naira is beginning to bounce back after it closed at 512 against the United States dollar on the parallel market on Tuesday. This is coming a day after the Central Bank of Nigeria introduced a new foreign exchange policy action. It previously exchanged at 520 to a dollar.
6. The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, Tuesday declared that he would soon become the President of Nigeria. Fayose said he believes that in the near future, he will take over the mantle to lead the nation as his future was tied to the presidency.
7. The National Agency for Food and drug Administration, NAFDAC, has begun investigations into the alleged importation of “Indian garri” in the country, even as the Acting Director General of NAFDAC, Mrs Yetunde Oni, urged Nigerians to stay away from the product because its consumption portended health hazards, as the agency was yet to certify it fit for consumption.
8. The Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, has vowed to join forces with the Military in order to combat militants who are constantly attacking the people of Lagos State. A statement by the Publicity Secretary of the Gani Adams-led OPC, Yinka Oguntimehin, said it was now time to act as their tolerance should not be mistaken for cowardice.
9. The Federal Government, Tuesday, said obtaining loan facility from the International Monetary Fund, IMF, was not an option to consider, stating that the country was not having a balance of payment problem but fiscal problems, hence Nigerians should take responsibility for what they caused by themselves and work towards resolving the problem.
10. The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr Garba Abari, has appealed to Nigerians to stop calling Nigeria as `Najia’ so its original name and identity is not lost. Abari told newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday that making funky the original name of Nigeria was disturbing and must be stopped in the best interest of the country.
