1. Report says the Nigerian police has continued its fight against the Peace Corps of Nigeria as officers of the force on Tuesday invaded the new National Headquarters of the Corps, and took into custody, the National Commandant, Amb. Dickson Akoh. He was arrested shortly after the launch of the permanent site of the corps.
2. A suspected member of Boko Haram, Mukthar Suleiman, who escaped from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) in 2015 after killing a police officer, has been rearrested. Suleiman was arraigned before a magistrates’ court in Lokoja, Kogi State on Tuesday. The prosecuting counsel, Mohammed Abaji, said Suleiman was arraigned on a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide and belonging to a gang of robbers.
3. Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has accused former President, Olusegun Obasanjo of being responsible for the level of hunger being experienced in Nigeria today. Fayose was reacting to Obasanjo’s statement that his generation failed Nigeria through a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi. He advised the former President against statements that could distract and discourage Nigerians from fixing the economy.
4. The Acting President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo has said that corruption is prevalent among political elites in Nigeria. He blamed the development on the priority placed on wealth in the country. Osinbajo said this while inaugurating the Private Sector Advisory Group for the Sustainable Development Goals at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
5. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has concluded all restructuring, transformation, reforms and other preparation for the 2017 UTME and will commence the sale of its application forms in March, 2017. JAMB Head of Information, Fabian Benjamin, in a statement said the board appreciates the patience exhibited by Nigerians while it embarked on the restructuring.
6. It’s likely that Nigeria is on its way out of economic recession as Naira has continued to appreciate against the dollars. The currency that exchanged for N450 to a dollar on Monday waxed stronger on Tuesday as it exchanged N425 to a dollar on Tuesday.
7. Former Governor of the Central Bank, CBN, Chukwuma Soludo, on Tuesday demanded the “immediate” release of incarcerated leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu. Soludo gave the call while speaking in Abuja on behalf of a delegation of Nzuko Umunna, a pan-Igbo group. He said no citizen of the country deserved the treatment being meted on Kanu and his men.
8. There was a slight misunderstanding among APC members of the House of Representatives on Tuesday when they exchanged words over the health status of President Muhammadu Buhari. While some of the members argued that nothing was wrong referring to the President as being sick, others said he was merely on a medical vacation and must not be called a sick person.
9. Former President, Goodluck Jonathan had a meeting with governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party in Abuja on Monday night, on the possible way out of the crisis tearing the party apart. The meeting was held at the office of the former President in Maitama District. The governors were led by the chairman of their forum, Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose to the meeting.
10. National leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, yesterday, pledged his loyalty to President Muhammadu Buhari, saying he will never contest the Presidency against him. Tinubu said that a newspaper report to the contrary only wanted to set him and Buhari apart. His reaction was contained in a statement issued by Mr. Tunde Rahman, his Media Assistant.
