1. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Tuesday injected another 100 million dollars into the interbank foreign exchange market to maintain the strength of the local currency. This was disclosed on Tuesday by the CBN acting Director, Corporate Communications, Isaac Okorafor. Okorafor explained that the measure became necessary as part of the initiatives to make forex easily accessible, thereby crashing demand at the black market.
2. Unions in the aviation industry and workers from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) on Tuesday embarked on peaceful protest against the recent appointment of directors for the agency. Reports says the unions were made up of the Air Transport Senior Staff Services Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), National Association of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) and National Association of Airline Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE). The Unions said two of the directors were not professionals in aviation, hence not qualified.
3. Chocolate City boss, Audu Maikori, on Tuesday collapsed at the 2017 Women in Management, Business and Public Service (WIMBIZ) holding at the Muson Center in Lagos. The doctors at the venue, however, revived him, before he was taken to St Nicholas Hospital for further treatment.
4. The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ali Modu Sheriff, has directed all staff of the political party to resume work. This was contained in a statement, signed by the Acting National Publicity Secretary of the party, Bernard Mikko. He made it clear that the workers were supposed to be apolitical and not take sides, threatening to take disciplinary action on staff who fail to respect the new order.
5. Andrew Yakubu, a former Group Managing Director of NNPC, has asked the Federal High Court Abuja to award N1 billion in his favour against EFCC as damages and compensation for violation of his right. Counsel to Yakubu, Mr Adeola Adedipe told the court that the matter was brought pursuant to Order 8, Rule 4 of the Fundamental Rights Enforcement Procedure Rules. Yakubu also prayed the court for a declaration that he was entitled to the dignity of his person, personal liberty, freedom of movement, private and family life as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution.
6. Fans Tuesday evening called for the resignation of Arsene Wenger after Arsenal suffered a heavy home defeat in the hands of Bayern Munich. Bayern defeated the gunners 5-1 to seal a 10-2 aggregate success in the round of 16 of the Champions League.
7. The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘A’, has disclosed that it seizure 23,000 bags of 50kg imported parboiled rice, disclosing that the importers owe the Federal Government N149.5m in import duty. The Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr. Jerome Attah, stated this in a statement on Tuesday.
8. The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully destroyed a logistics base of fleeing Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs) in Sambisa. Air Force spokesman, Group Captain Ayodele Famiyiwa, said this in a statement Tuesday night. He disclosed that the fleeing terrorists were tracked by NAF Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft to the concealed location where they had gone to retrieve some items before fighter aircraft were called-in to strike.
9. The National Reconciliation Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chaired by the Bayelsa State governor, Henry Seriake Dickson, in Abuja on Tuesday submitted its report to the chairman of the party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, with a proposition that he should hold convention as soon as possible. Dickson read the resolution of the committee in its report during a visit to the PDP national secretariat.
10. The House of Representatives said, yesterday, that the Senate shouldn’t have sent any delegate to South Africa, in view of the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in that country, saying such had amounted to duplication of efforts. It also cautioned the South African government that the recent attacks should be the last, stressing that Nigeria could retaliate any form of ill-treatment meted out on its citizens.
