1. The Secretary to the government of the Federation, Mr. Babachir David Lawal has been summoned to appear before Senate Ad-hoc Committee investigating him over mismanagement of Internally Displaced Persons funds. A letter addressed to SGF and signed by the ad-hoc committee chairman, Senator Shehu Sani, asked Lawal to further clear himself.
2. An Abuja Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, Tuesday granted former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Andrew Yakubu, N300m bail. The trial judge, Justice A. R. Mohammed, ordered Yakubu who is facing money laundering charge, to also produce two sureties in like sum.
3. Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs Service, NCS, Hameed Ali, on Tuesday said he will not appear before the Senate on Wednesday. He explained that his decision not to appear before the senate was due to a writ of summons he received on a case filed by a lawyer at an Abuja court. He said it would be subjudice for him to appear before the Senate on the pending issues that are also before the court.
4. The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has released the time-table for prospective corps members who will be serving their country in ‘Batch A’ of 2017. Online registration will begin April 17 and end May 4, when their call-up letters will equally be available for pick up. The date for resumption in camp has not yet been published.
5. The convoy of Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, was involved in a “minor accident” on Tuesday, while the governor was on his way from Zaki-Biam, the headquarters of Ukum LGA, where some gunmen attacked and massacred over 50 persons on Monday. Report says an oncoming vehicle, Carina 2, ran into the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, bus, which was on Governor Samuel Ortom’s convoy.” Two people reportedly sustained minor injuries.
6. The Nigerian Union in South Africa, on Tuesday disclosed that five Nigerians were attacked in Polokwane, Limpopo Province of South Africa, and were critically injured in what was said to be renewed xenophobic attacks. Mr Collin Mgbo, Secretary of the Union in the Province disclosed the development.
7. Head coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr, will have to player without Victor Moses, for their two international friendly matches against Senegal and Burkina Faso. The Chelsea wingback reported to the London camp with a medical report from the Premier League club, which stated that he was being treated for an injury, hence he would not be available for the two friendly matches.
8. The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff has alleged that the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee was plotting to purchase judgement at the Supreme Court. Sheriff, however, expressed confidence that the justices would not now bow to those he described as desperate politicians. Deputy national chairman, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, spoke on behalf of the Chairman.
9. The mother of the doctor, Allwell Orji, who jumped into Lagos lagoon from the Third Mainland bridge on Sunday has claimed that the body recovered from the Lagoon on Tuesday was not that of her son. The spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Dolapo Badmos, on Tuesday quoted the mother to have made the claim.
10. The Ahmedu Bello University, ABU, management has said it would issue a statement on Dino Melaye’s academic status today regarding the allegation that he did not graduate from the school, even as the senate probes the certificate scandal todal.
