Nigerian newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Wednesday morning

Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. Report has it that suspected Boko Haram suicide bombers, Tuesday, killed at least 27 people and injured 83 in a fresh attack in Borno State. The report claimed a female bomber blew up herself at a market in Konduga, a village near Maiduguri leading to massive casualties.

2. The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi has dismissed rumours that his marriage has crashed. The monarch, who spoke through his media aide, Moyinoluwa Oluwaseun, said the palace was not aware of the rumour making the rounds on social media until Tuesday afternoon. He said his marriage was still intact and full of joy.

3. A former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has debunked reports that he has defected from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, alongside some lawmakers. Kwankwaso said the report was maliciously meant to tarnish his image. The denial came through his chief of staff, Aminu Abdussalam, who spoke to newsmen on Tuesday.

4. Justice Abdulaziz Anka of a Lagos Federal High Court will today (Wednesday) rule on whether or not it will proceed to hear the N300m fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by suspected billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, also known as Evans.

5. Activist cum entertainer, Charlyboy was on Tuesday attacked at the Wuse market in Abuja. Charlyboy who had initially protested to the Unity Fountain and had officially ended protest for the day, went to the market to buy some items when some hoodlums came into the market in a bus, mobilized some thugs who attacked him. One of his aides was seriously injured and his BMW car destroyed.

6. Report says a family of five was wiped out in a day after a rice meal at the Umuatuegwu Okija community, in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State. The victims were identified as a commercial motorcyclist, Albert Ndenemenu; his wife, Nwanne, and their three children.

7. The Anambra State Police Command has invited Chief Aloysius Ikegwuonu, suspected to be involved in the attack at St Philip’s Catholic Church, Amakwa Ozubulu penultimate Sunday. Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in Anambra State, Mrs. Nkiru Nwode, said, yesterday, that Ikegwuonu, popularly called ‘Bishop’, is expected to appear at the police headquarters in Awka on Friday.

8. The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, has thrown its weight behind Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, threatening to join action if the the Federal Government does not immediately commence the implementation of agreements it entered into with ASUP. This was contained in a statement by ASUP Secretary General, Anderson Ezeibe.

9. The naira on Tuesday dropped further against the dollar. Naira depreciated to N370 per dollar in the parallel market. The local currency has dropped N3 in just three days. The naira, however, recorded marginal appreciation in the Investors and Exporters (I&E) window.

10. Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, has challenged the competence of amended five-count treasonable charge the Federal Government lodged against him and four other pro-Biafra agitators-Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Benjamin Madubugwu, David Nwawuisi and Bright Chimezie- before the Federal High Court in Abuja. Kanu and his co-defendants are expected to enter their fresh plea to the amended charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/383/2015, before trial Justice Binta Nyako, on October 17.
