1. The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, on Tuesday reshuffled 55 management staff in a massive shakeup ordered by the Group Managing Director, Dr. Maikanti Baru. NNPC said that the latest postings would not only help to position the Corporation for the challenges ahead but also fill the gaps created due to statutory retirements of staff.
2. Report says several students were injured after gunmen suspected to be cultists attacked the Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu campus. The report claims the gunmen stormed the hostel, in the guise of searching for a stolen laptop.
3. The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, on Tuesday, shunned their meeting with the Federal Government. The meeting was aimed at resolving the ongoing industrial action. ASUU President, Biodun Ogunyemi, said the union will only accept a meeting if government sends a reply its proposal.
4. The police is expected to arraign the notorious kidnapper, Chukwudi Onwuamadike a.k.a. Evans, today on 52 charges. Report says some of the charges border on murder, kidnapping, armed robbery and unlawful possession of firearms.
5. A Divisional Police Officer in Rivers State whose name has remained undisclosed has been arrested on the orders of the State Police Command for his alleged involvement in the escape of a ritualist, Ifeanyi Dike, who killed an eight-year-old girl. The report claims that the DPO, who was arrested on Monday, was involved in a telephone conversation with Johnbosco Okoroeze, the dismissed IPO, showing that he was fully involved in the escape of the the suspected ritual killer.
6. The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called for the immediate resolution of the disagreement between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Nigerian government. The students also reminded government that its 21 days ultimatum for the situation to be resolved stands. NANS President, Chinonso Obasi, in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja, urged both parties to engage in constructive dialogue as they meet over the strike.
7. The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has said that President Muhammadu Buhari is investigating the feud between the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), and the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Ibrahim Magu. Mohammed said the disagreement was purely administrative, and that if it was not, the President will take appropriate action.
8. The naira recorded a marginal gain at the parallel market on Tuesday, closing at 368 per dollar. The local unit had closed at 370 to a dollar on Monday, the same rate it closed on Friday. Following declining dollar supply by the CBN, the naira has been recording gradual depreciation, but has now picked up.
9. The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has appointed, Imohimi Edgar, as the new Commissioner of Police in-charge-of the Lagos State Command. This follows Edgar’s recent promotion by the Police Service Commission. Edgar was until his promotion, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP, in-charge-of Operations, in Lagos State and was instrumental in ending activities of the dreaded Badoo cult and militants carrying out kidnappings within Ikorodu and its adjoining communities.
10. The personal assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Social media, Lauretta Onochie, Tuesday said that the leader of the indigenous people of Biafra, IPOB, should be taken back to where he belongs for violating three of his bail conditions granted him by court. In her statement on facebook tagged, ‘Due process, being followed on little Nnamdi Kanu, Lauretta also chided Kanu’s followers, referring to them as touts.
