1. Staff members of National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) yesterday staged a protest in Abuja to usher in the commencement of a three-day warning strike today.

The workers, who were protesting alleged non-promotion of staff in the commission, the absence of work tools, and non-payments of their allowances, called for the removal of the Commissioner for Insurance, Alhaji Mohammed Kari.

2. President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday terminated the appointment of suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal, former NIA Director General, Ayo Oke.

Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, in a statement said the president has replaced Lawal with Boss Mohammed.

3. Former Governor of Gombe State and Senator representing Gombe Central, Senator Mohammed Danjuma Goje yesterday lost his dear wife to the icy hands of death.

Hajiya Yelwa Danjuma Goje passed on early hours of Monday at a hospital in the United States of America, aged 55.

4. Economic Community of West African State, ECOWAS, Court of Justice, has ordered the Nigerian Government to pay the sum of 88billion as compensation to nine victims of the Nigerian Civil war.

The regional court ruled that part the Federal Government undertakes to pay, without delay, compensation in the sum of N50 billion in full and final sum to the victims, their families and communities as contained in Schedule 4(1) to the terms of settlement.

5. The Head of Service of the Federation, Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita, has claimed that President Muhammadu Buhari was aware of the reinstatement of a former Chairman of the Pension Reforms Commission, Mallam Abdulrasheed Maina, into the civil service.

Oyo-Ita said that her earlier warning to Buhari was based on the implications such reinstatement would have on the anti-corruption war of the Federal Government.

6. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has urged the Federal High Court in Lagos not to order the return of a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, from the United Kingdom to Nigeria.

The anti-graft agency described Diezani’s prayer to be brought back to Nigeria as a ploy to escape justice in the UK, where, according to the EFCC, she is being investigated for several financial crimes by the Metropolitan Police.

7. The Ondo State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, has denied the report that his administration has stopped free education for the students of public schools in the state.

The state government in a statement issued yesterday, said it had yet to approve the recommendations of the summit and the government could not implement the recommendations until the final approval by the State Executive Council.

8. ​President Muhammadu Buhari, Monday ​night ​said the nation’s security ​and anti-corruption ​agencies were free ​to probe sacked Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, and the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Ayo Oke.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, who disclosed this in a statement​, said the President has taken the administrative action, adding that all other actions will be taken by relevant government agencies.

9. A pro-Biafra group, the Biafra Zionists Federation, on Monday blamed a former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon for the civil war that started in 1967.

The BZF leader, Benjamin Onwuka, said Gowon’s claim that Gowon caused the war was untrue.

10. A national leader of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Monday told newsmen not to discuss the current clamour for President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election with him.

Tinubu, who spoke State House correspondents shortly after meeting behind closed doors with the President at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, also declared that there was no cabal in Buhari’s government.
