1. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has detained the immediate past governor of Kogi State, Idris Wada. The anti-graft agency traced N500m to the former governor’s account on Monday. The money, it was allegedly part of the N23bn disbursed by a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, through the then Director of Finance of the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation , Senator Nenadi Usman.
2. The Nigerian government has said that the United Nation’s prediction that 2019 elections in Nigeria will be credible and violent-free was a clear indication of the world’s confidence in the country’s current administration. Garba Shehu, spokesperson to President Muhammadu Buhari, told newsmen in Abuja on Monday, that the Buhari government doesn’t believe in cheap propaganda.
3. The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has threatened to commence nationwide indefinite strike from November 13. Addressing newsmen in Abuja on Monday, after the union’s emergency National Executive Council Meeting, ASUP President, Usman Dutse regretted the way successive administrations had treated polytechnic education in the country.
4. The remains of 26 Nigerian women believed to be migrants have been found in a Spanish warship in the Italian coast city of Salerno. Report claims that a Spanish warship, Cantabria was found to be carrying 375 rescued migrants and the dead women.
5. The National Industrial Court of Nigeria has asked Governor Ayodele Fayose to pay over N234m to chairmen and members of statutory commissions appointed by former Governor, Kayode Fayemi, but were later sacked by the current administration. The court gave the order while delivering judgment in separate suits filed by the sacked members of the commission against the governor and the Attorney-General of Ekiti State.
6. President Muhammadu Buhari will today present the 2018 Appropriation Bill to a joint session of the National Assembly. The presentation will hold around 2pm. Report has it that the Federal Government plans to spend about N8.6tn next year, an increment of 15 per cent from the N7.44tn budgeted for this year.
7. VICE President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, yesterday, said delay in budget approval process was one of the main causes that deepened recession in the country. Osinbajo spoke at Legislative Economic Summit organised by the House of Representatives in Abuja.
8. Many were killed on Monday after Boko Haram fighters attacked Bakin Dutse village. The insurgents also advanced to Gulak, the headquarters of Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State. The local vigilance in the area, however, joined the troops of the Nigerian army to repel the attacks. Many have, however, deserted the affected communities.
9. Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, on Monday said the laying of tracks of Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge rail line would start in December. He also said that Jibowu and Costain bridges in Lagos would be demolished to give way for the new railway lines.
10. The General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye yesterday waded into the arguments on the social media about payment of tithes, advising Christians especially his members on the dangers attached to not paying of tithe. He said opinions in the contrary should be disregarded.
