1. Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Chief Olu Falae, on Monday expressed his disappointment with President Muhammadu Buhari over his continued silence on the incessant attacks by Fulani herdsmen on farmers in the country. He said he expected the President to have announced an effective measures that could control the capacity of the herdsmen from terrorising the people of the country.
2. Taraba state governor Darius Ishaku has denied arming militia group to attack Fulani herdsmen in preparation for open grazing prohibition law. Ishaku, in a statement denied allegations of having instructed the massacre of innocent citizens. He said he had on several occasions called out to the federal government when Fulani herdsmen attacked Ussa, Takum, Gassol and other communities of the state without a response.
3. Similarly, Dozens of people on Monday embarked on a protest at Trafalgar Square, London, condemning the incessant killings of innocent Nigerians by suspected Fulani herdsmen in various parts of Nigeria. The protest was convened by Mutual Union of Tivs in the United Kingdom (MUTUK) and was supported by members of the Nigerian community in the UK.
4. The Presidency has reacted to a statement credited to the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Ghali Na’Abba where he claimed that President Muhammadu Buhari lacks the mental capacity to govern the country. In a statement signed by Garba Shehu, Buhari’s achievements were listed to debunk the statement. Na’Abba was equally advised to have a second look at Buhari administration’s achievements before declaring him incapable.
5. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has boosted the inter-bank foreign exchange market with $210 million. According to a statement on Monday by the Bank’s Acting Director, Corporate Communications, Mr Isaac Okorafor, to meet customers’ requests in various segments of the market. He said the fund would also ensure that legitimate demands for foreign exchange are met.
6. Leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, from the South East geopolitical zone, on Monday endorsed President Muhammadu Buhari for a second term. They,however, requested that Buhari pays back in 2023 by supporting a president of Igbo extraction. The APC South East leaders announced their endorsement when they paid him a courtesy call at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. National Vice Chairman of APC in South East, Emma Eneukwu, who read the address at the event said that four years was not enough for the President to implement all his projects.
7. An outbreak of Lassa fever has been reported in Ondo State, with one person dead and nine others down with the virus. It was gathered that the epidemic occurred in Ose, Owo and Akoko South-West Local Government Areas of the state. Akoko South-West was said to have recorded four cases of the disease while six were from Owo and Ose.
8. The Senator representing Bayelsa East in the National Assembly, Ben-Murray Bruce, has said that his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was willing to receive his colleague, Shehu Sani into the main opposition party. He said the way things are going, it seems the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, no longer want the senator, but that his party will graciously welcome him to its fold considering Sani’s intellects.
9. Former Libaria football star and a one-time World Footballer of the Year, Weah, was on Monday sworn in as Liberia’s new president. Weah took his oath of office at exactly noon inside the 35,000 capacity Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Monrovia. At least, eight African Heads of States, including President Muhammadu Buhari who was represented by Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, and international soccer stars, including Nigeria’s own JJ Okocha witnessed the ceremony.
10. The Nigeria police has faulted intelligence report by the Department of State Services DSS, claiming that the Islamic State in West Africa were responsible for attacks in Benue. The Force stated that it would be too early to conclude on members of the terrorist network as perpetrators of attacks and killings in Benue and other North-Central states. This argument was put forward by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, Joshak Habila.
