1. Qatar Airways has denied interest as a core investor in federal government national carrier project, Nigeria Air.
Akbar Al Baker, the Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Airways says his company was not looking to be a core investor, adding that the government only approached their management on how to go about floating a national carrier.
2. The ongoing strike declared by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) continues as the leaders of the union and the Federal government failed to reach an agreement again.
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, presided over a resumed negotiation with the striking university lecturers on Monday at the ministry’s office in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
3. The Nigerian Presidency has said it has written the National Crime Commission of the United Kingdom, UK, to assist in the investigation of five senators with properties in the UK and the British Virgin Islands.
The Senators are Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, and Imo state governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hope Uzodinma, Senators Stella Odua, Peter Nwaoboshi and Albert Bassey Akpan.
4. No fewer than 500 aggrieved aspirants on the platform of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, in Anambra State have demanded immediate sack of the party’s national chairman, Chief Victor Oye, for over alleged deceit, fraud and extortion during the party’s primaries ahead of the 2019 general elections.
According to them, Oye lacked the required experience to manage the affairs of the party in line with national and international best practices.
5. Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State on Monday presented a budget proposal of N109, 199 billion for the 2019 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly for consideration and passage.
Presenting the 2019 budget proposal tagged: ‘‘Budget of peace, equity and prosperity’’, Gov. Ugwuanyi disclosed that the appropriation bill was 5.44% higher than the 2018 budget of N103, 563 billion.
6. Chinese President Xi Jinping has felicitated with President Muhammadu Buhari on his 76th birthday.
A letter signed by the Chinese leader wished President Buhari ‘‘good health and great success’’ in his endeavours.
7. National Assembly workers under the umbrella of Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) have made good their threat to embark on a four-day strike.
The workers, who are demanding mainly for the payment of arrears of 28 per cent increase in their salaries since 2010, stormed the National Assembly in the early hours of Monday blocking all entrances into the complex.
8. Suspected gunmen have reportedly killed 14 persons and injured 17 others on Sunday night at Ungwan Paa-Gwandara village in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Joshua Paul, a resident of the community told newsmen in Kafanchan on Monday that the victims were at a wedding when they were attacked at about 8pm.
9. Former Osun State Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to quietly back out of the 2019 presidential race.
He said President Buhari will only be saving himself the shame of a crushing electoral defeat by doing so.
10. Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has officially endorsed the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC, in the State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat.
Ambode said that both men were prepared for the campaign and ready to take on the task of moving Lagos to another level.
