1. Nigeria today joins the rest of the world to mark Christmas. Christmas is the commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ.
2. Former President Goodluck Jonathan has urged Nigerians to pray for the country as it enters the final stretch of electioneering period.
Jonathan, in his Christmas message to Nigerians on his verified Facebook page, urged them to show love to one another.
3. Governors of Imo, Delta and Plateau States have felicitated with Nigerians as they celebrate Christmas.
The governors, in separate statements, urged Christians to pray for peace, love and unity of the country and total reconciliation with God and man.
4. Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has proposed four hundred and eighty billion naira as 2019 appropriation bill.
The 2019 appropriation bill christened, “Budget of sustainable growth and economic development’ will be funded from the State’s Internally Generated Revenue and the funds from the monthly Federal Allocation.
5. Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State on Monday presented the 2019 appropriation bill of over N148.7 billion to the State House of Assembly.
Presenting the budget before the State Assembly, Lalong said the appropriation bill is christened “Budget of Rescue and Infrastructural Growth”.
6. The Central Bank of Nigeria has announced the resolution of its dispute with MTN Communications Limited, saying the company will now atone only for illegal remittances on preference shares issued in 2008.
CBN’s spokesman and director of corporate communications, Isaac Okorafor, announced this in a statement published on the bank’s website on Monday.
7. The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu has declared what could be termed as war on the Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu over the arrest of about 52 Jewish worshippers during a recent peaceful procession in Umuahia, the state capital.
Kanu urged his followers to “scatter” any gathering of Ikpeazu’s campaign team, which will serve as a reprisal attack over the arrest of the worshippers.
8. Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to direct the release of political activist, Mr. Deji Adeyanju and ensure that his fundamental human rights are not continuously abused by the Police.
Saraki, in a statement signed by his Special Adviser (Media and Publicity), Yusuph Olaniyonu, noted that Adeyanju’s case was portraying the present administration in bad light as a government that was intolerant of criticisms and suppressing views of the opposition.
9. Boko Haram insurgents, Monday evening attacked a military base in Kukareta village, under Damaturu local government area, Yobe state.
Yobe State Commisioner of Police, Sunmonu Adeyemi Abdulmaliki confirmed the attacked, adding that details were still sketchy.
10. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has filed a motion for the interim forfeiture of the $2.8 million it seized at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport last week.
The application made to the Federal High Court Enugu comes despite strong protest by Bankers Warehouse, which has claimed ownership of the huge cash and has asked the anti-graft agency to urgently return the money and tender an unreserved apology for the seizure.
