1. President Muhammadu Buhari has sacked the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Dr. Bichi Baffa. Baffa has also been replaced by a former Executive Secretary, Prof. Elias Suleiman Bogoro. The sacked Executive Secretary of TETFund was an aide to the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu.
2. The Acting Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Mohammed Adamu has ordered the decentralisation of operations of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit. Adamu gave the order at a meeting with officers in the rank of Commissioners of Police and above on Monday in Abuja. He said that with the new arrangement, commissioners of police in the 36 states and the FCT would assume full command and control all SARS in their commands.
3. The Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has listed 30 alleged “corrupt” persons working with President Muhammadu Buhari. In the list released by his Special Assistant on Public Communications, Phrank Shaibu, on Sunday, Abubakar named former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari among others as corrupt individuals working with Buhari. He stated that while most are members of the party, others ran to the party to seek refuge from anti-graft agencies.
4. Bola Tinubu, a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Monday said former President, Olusegun Obasanjo’ s criticisms of President Muhammadu Buhari, was in bad faith and should be ignored. Tinubu who spoke in Maiduguri, noted that Obasanjo was not happy with the feat attained by the APC government in the clean-up of the mess of the past 16 years of PDP administration.
5. The Federal High Court Abuja has restrained the Federal Government from forcefully removing the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen from office. Justice Edward Ekwo gave the order on Monday in Abuja while ruling on an ex parte motion brought by the Action Peoples Party. The court ordered parties to maintain status quo pending the determination of the Motion on Notice.
6. Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State, Sure Abu (Simba) and 20,000 others have dumped the party for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state. Abu also left the party alongside the APC youth leader of the Local Government as well as four ward chairmen of the party. They joined the party on Monday in Agatu during the local government tour of Governor Samuel Ortom.
7. The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has called on the Federal Government to discontinue the prosecution of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen, and follow due process. A statement issued by the NBA President, Mr Paul Usoro, on Monday in Abuja, urged the government to follow due process if its goal was to remove Onnoghen from office.
8. Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has declared that the state will resist the use of N-power personnel, as Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, ad-hoc staff during the 2019 elections. The Governor said this yesterday while speaking during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign rally at Ikwerre Local Government Area, in Omagwa. According to him, the N-power list was concocted to favour the All Progressives Congress, APC, with a view to rigging the elections.
9. Some key figures of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, including former Governor of Borno State, Mohammed Goni, were formally received into the APC at the Ramat Square in Maiduguri, venue of the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential rally on Monday. The chieftains joined APC to ensure Buhari stays in office beyond 2019.
10. President Muhammadu Buhari has sympathised with those that sustained injuries at a campaign rally in Maiduguri, Borno, where a pavilion crashed on party faithful. Several party men and women at the rally climbed on roofs of pavilions. One, however, came down crashing on other spectators. A statement by Malam Garba Shehu in Abuja on Monday stated that the president, who expressed sadness over the incident, prayed for the quick recovery of the affected persons.
