1. The Buhari Campaign Organisation has accused the United States and other western ambassadors of partiality and show of support for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its presidential residential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. This was made known through its Director of Strategic Communication, Festus Keyamo, SAN.
2. Palpable tension has enveloped Benjamin, a popular area in Eleyele, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital following the alleged discovery of a den suspected to be a ritualists’ hideouts. Report claims there were human footprints to indicate human activities in the tunnel which lie under the main road. The tunnel led to an abandoned filling station on the road, where other items, including brassieres, were spotted.
3. The Supreme Court has struck out an appeal filed by Senator Magnus Abe against the stay of execution of the judgment of the Federal High Court, which nullified the nomination of Tonye Cole and others as candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State in the 2019 general election In his judgement, Justice Bode Rhodes-Vivour noted that only a few of pages of the records of appeal were signed. He said since most of the pages were not signed, it could be interpreted that they were Senator Abe’s personal documents.
4. Former US President, Bill Clinton, has cancelled his trip to Nigeria, ahead of Saturday’s general elections, saying the visit could be “politicized”. The planned trip was facilitated by the Kofi Annan Foundation and the National Peace Committee (NPC). Clinton was scheduled to visit Abuja this week, alongside Baroness Patricia Scotland, the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth.
5. A video has emerged of former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinubu showing his frustration by throwing away the All Progressives Congress flag at a rally in Ogun State. The presidential campaign rally of the ruling party was greeted with violence after the state governor, Ibikunle Amosun, attempted to campaign for another governorship candidate.
6. Five persons were Monday shot dead in Udumurogbo Quarters in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State following a clash between the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the All Progressives Congress, APC. The incident started in the early hours of Monday. It also left many seriously wounded. Sophisticated arms and ammunition were freely used by suspected thugs.
7. The National Judicial Council, NJC, on Monday issued a fresh query to the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen. NJC ordered the suspended Justice to respond to a fresh petition the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, filed against him. The body also set up a preliminary complaints assessment committee to review the responses given to it by Onnoghen, and the Acting CJN, Justice Ibrahim Muhammad.
8. President Muhammadu Buhari was shouted down on Monday at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential rally in Ogun State. Those who opposed Buhari were supporters of Governor Ibikunle Amosun. Some of them wore t-shirts with his image as well as Senatorial campaign posters. They also stoned the president and other APC chieftains.
9. Kogi group under the aegis of Igala / Bassa leadership Forum has endorsed the candidature of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) for the February 16, 2019, presidential poll. The group also threw her weights behind all the candidates of the PDP in the forthcoming general elections. In a communique at the end of the enlarged meeting held at Ankpa and signed by Dr. Odekina John, it noted with distraught the abysmal performance of the APC-led government in the centre and in Kogi state.
10. The Supreme Court will on Tuesday deliver judgements in about six appeals by factions of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State. The appeals followed the decision of the Court of Appeal in Port-Harcourt, which upheld the judgment of the High Court of Rivers State which voided the primaries conducted by the faction loyal to Rotimi Amaechi and the other loyal to Senator Magnus Abe.
