1. Several persons have been killed in two communities of Shinkafi and Anka Local Government Areas of Zamfara State. The incident came less than 24 hours after Governor Abdul Aziz Yari swore to deal with bandits in the state. The bandits, who move in large number on motorcycles, were said to have attacked the communities.
2. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, said it has petitioned the United Nations against the military over its role in the last Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections across the country. PDP, therefore, accused the military of direct involvement in the country’s election and, in effect, abetted the elements of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to rig the said polls in favour of President Muhammadu Buhari.
3. Four opposition political parties in Oyo State among whom are the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) African Democratic Congress (ADC) Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) on Monday signed an agreement to present the gubernatorial candidate of the PDP, Mr. Seyi Makinde as consensus candidate for the March 9th election. Report claims that the coalition meeting to form an alliance to tackle the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) started few days to the Presidential and National Assembly elections.
4. No fewer than sixteen people have been killed in a fresh attack on three communities in the Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State by suspected herdsmen. The suspected herdsmen, who were said to have invaded the communities on Saturday, shot indiscriminately and killed 16 people before setting over 30 houses on fire. The Chairman of Gwer West Local Government, Francis Ayagan, confirmed the attack to newsmen on Monday.
5. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed that it has commenced investigation into the alleged money-laundering by the Finance Director of Atiku Abubakar’s group of companies, Alhaji Babalele Abdullahi. Acting Spokesman of EFCC, Mr Tony Orilade, stated this in Abuja on Monday, and confirmed that Abdullahi was in the commission’s custody.
6. The United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Stuart Symington, has called for a peaceful gubernatorial election in Kaduna State on Saturday, March 9. The US envoy stated this on Monday in Kaduna in an interview shortly after a meeting with Gov. Nasiru El-Rufa’i. The ambassador said he was in Kaduna again with the simple message of reminding citizens to remain peaceful after the Governorship and State House of Assembly elections.
7. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Monday night, said the Deputy Director General (Admin) of Atiku Campaign Organization, Barr. Tanimu Turaki, SAN, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). PDP warned that Turaki should be release immediately and unconditionally. Its spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan, confirmed this in a statement.
8. No fewer than 15 serving Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) councillors in Kwara, on Monday, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of Governorship and State Assembly elections in the State. The defectors, who were drawn from five out 16 local government areas of the state, said they defected to the APC in the interest of the masses.
9. A Federal High Court sitting in Kano has barred the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Abba Kabir-Yusuf, from contesting in the Saturday election. The presiding judge, Justice Lewis Allagoa on Monday ruled that the purported nomination of Abba Kabir as governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party was invalid as the party failed to conduct a primary election.
10. Babalele Abdullahi, an associate of Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Abdullahi is Atiku’s son-in-law and Finance Director of companies owned by the Wazirin Adamawa. Segun Sowunmi, Atiku’s spokesman, confirmed the development Tuesday morning on Twitter.
