1. Governor Rochas Okorocha and his Son-in-law, Monday lost to the Peoples Democratic Party’s Emeka Ihedioha in the March 9 governorship polls in Imo. Prof. Francis Otonta, the Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the final results at the Imo governorship election collation centre in Owerri, the state capital on Tuesday.
2. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared elections in Benue, Sokoto, Adamawa, Plateau, Bauchi, Kano and Rivers States inconclusive. It is clear that five of the seven were states PDP had taken a major lead. According to INEC, elections are to be conducted in the affected states within 21 days.
3. Following the victory of Gov. El-Rufai in the just concluded Kaduna governorship election, Alhaji Isa Ashiru, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship candidate has rejected the outcome of the election in the state. The PDP candidate said he has substantial evidence showing that the election was manipulated.
4. The Kaduna State Police Command on Monday said no fewer than 16 persons were killed by unknown gunmen at Barde Village under Maro in Kajuru Local Government Area of the state. The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Yakubu Sabo, confirmed the incident in Kaduna.
5. Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has condemned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for declaring elections in some states inconclusive. The PDP presidential candidate warned INEC to conclude elections in line with the yearnings of the people. He posted his reaction on Twitter.
6. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has released a comprehensive list of Senators-elect, following the February 23 Presidential and National Assembly Elections. However, Governor Rochas Okoracha’s name was omitted from the list. The list was displayed on the commission’s website.
7. His Holiness, Pope Francis, has appointed His Grace, Archbishop Ignatius Ayau Kaigama as the Catholic Bishop of Abuja. Pope Francis, represented by Apostolic Nuncio to Nigeria, His Grace, Archbishop Antonio Guido Filipazzi, made the announcement on Monday in Abuja, during the opening ceremony of the first plenary meeting of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN). Kaigama will take over from His Eminence, John Cardinal Onaiyekan who reached the retirement age of 75 years on Jan. 29.
8. Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC) to declare all verifiable results of Saturday’s Rivers State Governorship Election on units and ward basis. The Rivers Traditional Rulers stated that only compromised results should be discountenanced. The Traditional Rulers made their position known in a press conference addressed yesterday by their Chairman, the Amayanabo of Opobo, King Douglas Dandeson Jaja, accusing the military of aiding thuggery and manipulations. It resolved to curse those directly involved in contracting either real or fake military for the elections.
9. Ex-Niger Delta militant leader, Asari Dokubo, has claimed his life is no longer safe and that he and his family members are living in fear. Dokubo raised the alarm after soldiers allegedly invaded his home yesterday in Obuama community in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State. He said though he would not flee his house, he feared there could be more visits by soldiers.
10. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Darius Ishaku, as the winner of the 2019 governorship election. Shehu Iya, the Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the final results at the Taraba governorship election collation centre in Jalingo, the state capital on Tuesday. Iya, said that the PDP scored a total vote of 520, 433 while the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 362, 735 votes.
