1. A Catholic priest, Rev. Father John Bako Shekwolo, has been kidnapped in Ankwa, Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The priest was kidnapped in the early hours of Monday near Kachia town. This was confirmed by the Chancellor, Archdiocese of Kaduna, Reverend Father Daniel J. Kyomm in a statement made available to journalists in the state.
2. Report says suspected herdsmen have sacked people from Merte and Nendem villages in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa state following a dispute with some youths in the area. ASP Samaila Usman, Spokesman of the Nasarawa State Police Command, confirmed the incident on Monday in Lafia.
3. The Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP, has reacted to court judgment that nullified the primaries of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Zamfara State. CUPP hailed the judgement, which was delivered at the Federal High Court, Abuja, while also commending the court for its ruling vacating its earlier order restricting INEC from continuing the collation of governorship election result from Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area.
4. The European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) has raised concern over cases of violence and intimidation in the just concluded supplementary elections. The union in a statement issued by its press officer, Sarah Fradgley said there was violence and intimidation of voters during Saturday’s rerun in parts of Kano, Bauchi and Benue States.
5. The Deputy Governorship candidate of the party adopted by the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi for the Governorship election in Rivers state, African Action Alliance, ACC, Akpo Bomba Yeah has announced his resignation from the AAC and defection to the Peoples Democratic Party. Akpo Yeeh in a letter addressed to the Governorship candidate of AAC in Rivers state, Biopkomabo Awara said his resignation from the party was informed by alleged hijack of the party’s structure by the All Progressives Congress in the state.
6. A former Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, on Monday, announced his intention to become President of the Senate of the ninth National Assembly. Ndume of the All Progressives Congress (APC) represents Borno South. He is the second aspirant from the North East geo-political zone to have declared interest. Ndume, in a letter of intent to the APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, said his decision was borne out of his desire to help accelerate socio-economic development of the nation.
7. Victor Osimhen netted a brilliant hat-trick, as Nigeria’s U-23 team beat their Libyan counterparts 4-0 on Monday to qualify for the under 23 African Cup of Nation. The Dream Team VII went into the game at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, with a 2-0 deficit from the first leg. However, Osimhen gave Nigeria a 1-0 lead in the first half and scored two more after the break. The striker also set up David Okereke for the last goal in injury time.
8. Governorship candidate of African Action Congress (AAC), Biokpomabo Awara, in Rivers state, has alleged his life is in danger. He said this on Monday after his running mate,, Chief Akpo Bomba Yeeh, defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In a chat with newsmen, Awara stated that gunmen were after him and his family.
9. Ifeanyi Ubah, Anambra South Senator-elect, of the Young People’s Party (YPP) has dumped the party for the All Progressives Congress (APC). Ubah’s defection was made known by the National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole on Monday. Oshiohmole informed the APC National Working Committee members, returning/newly-elected senators at the Presidential Villa, on Monday, that Ubah was now with the ruling party.
10. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it can issue a certificate of return to Sen Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) only if the embattled governor of Osun State, Gboyega Oyetola fails to appeal the judgment of the tribunal that sacked him within 21 days. Rumours went round the social media with pictures suggesting INEC issued a certificate of return to Adeleke. But reacting, INEC National Commissioner and chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Barr Festus Okoye debunked the rumours that Adeleke has been issued a certificate of return.
