1. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a statement on Monday by its spokesman Kola Ologbondiyan called on President Muhammadu Buhari to tender his West African Examination Certificate (WAEC) to the presidential election petition’s tribunal. The main opposition party also called on Nigerians to note that by claiming that an aspirant does not need WAEC certificate, but the ability to speak English, to contest for the office of the President, the Buhari Presidency, through Festus Keyamo, had finally admitted that President Buhari does not have a WAEC certificate as he claimed in his INEC documentation.
2. Troops of Sector 1, Operation LAFIA DOLE, in a joint clearance operations with Cameroon Defence Force, weekend, encountered Boko Haram terrorists at the Northern part of Wulgo, Tumbuma, Chikun Gudu and Bukar Maryam villages. A statement from Sagir Musa, Colonel and Acting Director Army Public Relations disclosed that during the operations, 27 terrorists were killed.
3. Gov. Kashim Shettima of Borno State on Monday confirmed that Senator Ahmad Lawan was President Muhammadu Buhari’s choice for the position of Senate President in the 9th Assembly. He said that although Sen. Ali Ndume was his kinsman, he would not defy the All Progressives Congress’ (APC).
4. The Federal Government, on Monday urged the Federal High Court in Lagos to issue a bench warrant against Innoson Nigeria Limited’s chairman, Mr. Innocent Chukwuma and some of his employees. They were charged for a fraud case before Justice Ayokunle Faji. The Police had earlier charged them with an alleged N2.4billion shipping fraud, but the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), later took over the case. Others named in the charge are Charles Chukwuma, Maximian Chukwura, Mitsui Osk Lines and Anajekwu Sunny.
5. A man, 28, identified as Munabo Tonworio, of Oluasiri in Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State has allegedly shot dead his girlfriend over suspicion of cheating. The incident occurred on Sunday night at about 11:00pm. Tonworio, an indigene of Agada-Ama community of the same LGA reportedly shot his girlfriend, Victoria Ekalamene, in the face while answering a phone call from an unidentified man.
6. Two persons were killed, while three others were hospitalised after suspected hoodlums attacked Iyemero-Ekiti, in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti. The attack came barely a week after the traditional ruler of the town, Oba Agboola Ogungbemi, had raised the alarm of an impending attack on his community.
7. The Inspector General of Police, Adamu Mohammed, on Monday vowed that all the affected officers involved in recent cases of extra-judicial killings recorded in Lagos State would be charged to court and made to face the law. Mohammed said this when he paid a courtesy visit to Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State, at Lagos House in Alausa, Ikeja. He said it was on record that police officers in the state had been performing creditably, but that the activities of a few unscrupulous ones were denting the good work of others.
8. Seven Chadian soldiers have been killed in an attack by Boko Haram, Azem Bermendoa Agouna an army spokesman said on Monday. The Islamist militants injured 15 others when they attacked an army position in Kaiga Kindjiria, in western Chad, on Sunday, The Army, has equally claimed that it killed 63 Boko Haram fighters during the encounter.
9. The National Universities Commission (NUC) says it is currently processing applications for 303 new private universities to cater for the demand of tertiary education in the country. Reports claim that the Executive Secretary of NUC, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed made this known at a two-day National Summit on Private Universities on Monday in Abuja.
10. A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers, Chukwuemeka Eze, has suggested that Governor Nyesom Wike wants to make peace with Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi because he was jittery over the case against him at the tribunal. Eze in a statement on Monday reacted to the call by Wike that Amaechi should join hands with him to move the state forward. He noted that rather than broadcasts, Wike should be preparing his defence at the election petitions tribunal, adding that the allegedly manipulated and massively-rigged elections would not stand.
