1. The World Health Organization, WHO, yesterday declared Nigeria Ebola free. The declaration was made after Nigeria recorded no new case of the virus for 42 days incubation period. The WHO Country Representative in Nigeria, Dr. Rui Gama Vaz, said that the feat meant that twice of incubation period after the last case tested negative for the EVD, the chain of transmission in Nigeria had been broken.
2. The federal government has announced that the epileptic power supply being experienced across the country since the past one week resulted from a drop in power generation by 1,000 megawatts. The Figures released by the Federal Ministry of Power showed that the country’s peak generation as of October 15, 2014 was 3,513.5MW, against a peak demand of 12,800MW. Therefore, with the drop, the country is currently generating about 2,500MW.
3. The ceasefire agreement between the Federal government and the Boko Haram insurgents suffered a great setback as the military on Sunday fought back when the insurgents made an attempt to reclaim Damboa, in Borno state, killing 25 insurgents.
4. The Ekiti Governor, Ayodele Fayose, on Monday faulted the N3.3bn Governor’s Lodge built by the former Governor, Kayode Fayemi, saying the project was an ill-conceived one. He said considering the level of poverty in the land, the project was unnecessary.
5. Even though he was at the APC meeting held in Sokoto yesterday, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal, has said he was still making consultation over his intention to dump the PDP for the APC.
6. The Christian Reformed Church, Nigeria, has cried out over the killing of about 30 Christians by Hausa-Fulani herdsmen in some parts of Taraba State even when there is a ceasefire agreement between the Federal Government and the Boko Haram Islamic sect. In an SOS message from the President of CRC-N, Rev. Caleb Ahima to the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, on Monday in Abuja, the church asked the CAN President to draw Federal Government’s attention to the continuous killing in Southern Taraba.
7. The Rivers State House of Assembly has approved the request by the state Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, to access N19bn from the state’s reserved funds. According to Ameachi, the request was necessary so as to complete ongoing projects in the state.
8. Outgoing Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro had yesterday declared his interest to contest the governorship of Lagos State. He said his aim was to rescue lagos state from some individuals who have put the state in perpetual bondage.
9. Report says Mrs Ifeoma Nwobodo, the Chief of Staff to Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State and four members of the State Executive Council, have resigned their appointments just to contest the 2015 National Assembly Election. The Commissioners include Barrister Chukwuka Utazi (Transport), Dr. Chukwuemeka Ujam (Lands) Chief Joe Mmamel (Culture and Tourism) and Engr. Ikechukwu Ugwuegede, (Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority).
10. Son of a former Prime Minister, Dr. Abdul Jhalil Tafawa Balewa, has described the endorsement of President Goodluck Jonathan as the sole candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as shameful. He said such consensus was unconstitutional as the party does not have a clause to justify its action.
