1. Ademola Adeleke, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2018 governorship election in Osun State has been detained by the Nigeria Police.

Adeleke was arrested after he had honoured an invitation by the police.

2. Gov. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State, on Monday, announced that a major purge would soon take place in the administrative machinery of the state, to ensure that only the right people are allowed to play roles in the scheme of things.

He explained the shake-up, which is part of a broad vision to move the state to the next level, would affect “all political office appointees except my Deputy, Dr. Nasiru Gawuna”.

3. President Muhammadu Buhari has ratified the appointment of former Minister of Commerce, Bello Maitama-Yusuf, as member of the Board of Directors of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC.

Special Assistant on New Media to the Governor of Jigawa State, Auwal Sankara, confirmed the appointment and revealed that Maitama-Yusuf was nominated by Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, Governor of the state.

4. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday said its probe of Senate President, Bukola Saraki will cover his activities from 2003.

The agency, however, denied that the investigation started after Saraki was appointed Ambassador-at-large of the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC).

5. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Southwest zone, has said Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State will be welcomed into the party but without special privileges, if he decamps from the All Progressives Congress, APC.

A statement signed by the Zonal Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Ayo Fadaka, however, said the alleged defection of Akeredolu remained a rumour and currently a non-issue within the PDP.

6. The Court of Appeal in Abuja has upheld the judgment of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), affirming the qualification of Dapo Abiodun to run for the office of Ogun State governor under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The appellate court, in a unanimous judgment of a three-man panel, held on Monday that the appeal by Abdulrafiu Adesina Baruwa, was without merit.

7. A soldier, Private Akhigbe Tijjani, was on Monday paraded by the Police in Yobe State.

Tijjani was accused of raping a young girl in front of her parents in Buni Yadi, Yobe State.

8. The Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership, CACOL, has commended the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, for de-listing 76 Computer-Based Test, CBT, centres for various infractions during the recently-concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, as well as ordering the prosecution of about 100 persons allegedly involved in various malpractices during the UTME that held between April 11 and April 18, 2019.

CACOL made this known in a statement issued on Monday by its Executive Chairman, Debo Adeniran.

9. Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja has turned down an ex parte application for an order stopping President Muhammadu Buhari from swearing in Justice Tanko Muhammad as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN.

The judge directed the applicant to put all the seven defendants on notice, rather than grant the application in his ruling,

10. The Nigeria Police have confirmed the arrest of Senator Ademola Adeleke.

Force spokesman, Mr. Frank Mba, explained that Adeleke is currently in police custody in connection with ongoing criminal investigations touching on his person.
