1. Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, Monday officially announced his exit from the Peoples Democratic Party. Obasanjo, while showing that he will never go back to the party tore his membership card before some newsmen and some members of his former party.
2. The Nigerian military yesterday announced that it was winning the war against the Boko Haram insurgents in the northeast. The military said it has completed part of its mission by clearing terrorists from Monguno and environs.
3. Following his denigration of the PDP by way of tearing his membership card, the Ogun State chapter of the PDP has yesterday announced Obasanjo’s expulsion from the party.
4. The Peoples Democratic Party Board of Trustees Chairman, Chief Tony Anenih, on Monday disclosed that it falls within Obasanjo’s personal rights to exit from the party, but however affirmed that the party and its leaders will not miss Obasanjo’s exit.
5. While debunking Obasanjo’s allegation against the military and its Chief that Jonathan was using it for tenure elongation, the Defence Headquarters had in statement it posted on its facebook page alleged that Obasanjo’s statements against the military was embarrassing, considering that he was a former General.
6. A Fourteen year-old boy, identified as Alaji, who was coerced into the Boko Haram militants group has while narrating his experience confessed that the fight was not a religion one as the insurgents claim, saying that so many dirty things including rape actually take place at the insurgents’ camps.
7. Presidential candidate of the All Progressives congress, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday said that the people of Borno will liberated from the Boko Haram insurgents once he is elected as Nigeria’s President. He made this promise in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital while on a visit to the state.
8. The New York Time has in its editorial reported that Nigeria’s elections were shifted because the incumbent President, Goodluck Jonathan was afraid of General Buhari who now enjoys massive support from the Nigerian people.
9. The Oyo state INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Amb. Rufus Akeju, has warned that any voter who is caught with fake Permanent Voter Card, PVC, during the general elections will be tried and jailed. Akeju made this known while speaking with newsmen in Ibadan on Sunday.
10. The Presidency yesterday denied that President Jonathan promised to rescue the Chibok girls before the expiration of the ongoing 6 weeks’ military offensive, faulting the countdown by the #bringbackourgirls# organisation, describing it as insincere and mischievous. The Presidency reacted in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe.
