1. The controversy on the impeachment of the Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose continued on Monday as members of the Peoples Democratic Party and supporters of the Governor took over the Ekiti State House of Assembly complex to frustrate the resumption of the 19 All Progressives Congress lawmakers. Relatively, offices and commercial activities in Ado Ekiti remained shut over the development.
2. Nigerians in Abuja and Edo State yesterday embarked on peaceful protests to some South African companies in the country, especially, MTN, MultiChoice and shoprites believed to be owned by South Africans. The protest was against the ongoing xenophobic attacks in South Africa.
3. President-Elect, General Muhammadu Buhari has reiterated that he was committed to ending the Boko Haram insurgency and to bring stability to the Northeast zone of the country. Buhari gave this assurance while speaking with the Borno State governor, Kashim Shettima in his residence. He also assured that he will revive the Lake Chad in order to create job for Nigerians.
4. Following the death of Senator Uche Chukwumerije, the Senate will adjourn plenary on Tuesday (today) in his honour. This is in line with the tradition of the upper chambers of the law making arm of government.
5. At least, 15 persons have been reportedly killed in Taraba state following a renewed clash between suspected Fulani mercenaries and some villagers. The incident happened in the early hours of Monday when the herdsmen attacked some villages in Donga Local Government Area of the state.
6. Despite rising protests over his emergence as the Governor-Elect of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike, of the Peoples Democratic Party yesterday received his certificate of return, pledging to run an all-inclusive government on assumption of office.
7. MTN Nigeria has cautioned Nigerians against attacking its facilities in the country as such action will force the company to close shop, and will subsequently lead to the loss of 6000 jobs in the country. The company was reacting to the threat by Nigerians that if the ongoing xenophobic attacks in South Africa is not stopped, they will attack South African owned companies in the country.
8. Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, yesterday blamed President Goodluck Jonathan’s loss in the last presidential election on his appointees whom he said were wrong people and could not play national politics the right way.
9. President Goodluck Jonathan has relieved the Director-General of National Sports Commission, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye of his job. Consequently, a Director in the NSC, Alhassan Yakmut, has been directed by the Sports Minister, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, to takeover from the former DG.
10. The All Progressives Congress, APC, has asked Nigerians to disregard media speculation on the appointment of ministers and the zoning of principal offices by the Gen. Buhari incoming administration. The party assured that the right channels would be followed to announce its decision when the party is done zoning various positions under the APC government.
