Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Tuesday morning

Good morning! Here are 10 things you need to know this morning!

1. President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday met separately with the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye; and the Presiding Bishop of the Living Faith Church, otherwise known as Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo in Lagos. Report says details of both meeting were not made public.

2. Barely few weeks to the end of his administration, the Enugu State governor, Sullivan Chime is said to be facing a serious battle. This is coming after an impeachment notice was filed against the governor on Tuesday by 14 lawmakers in the Assembly. But in a swift reaction, the other lawmakers loyal to the governor suspended the Speaker, Eugene Odoh, and elected a new Speaker in his place.

3. A former Managing Director of Nigerian Security, Minting and Printing Company, Mr. Ehidiamhem Okoyomon is to be extradited to the United Kingdom to face criminal charges. This is according to Justice Evoh Chukwu of the Federal High Court in Abuja. He gave the order on Monday. Okoyomo is to be extradited within 30 days.

4. Some Documents have been made public by President Goodluck Jonathan’s close associates, showing how some members of the National Working Committee, NWC, of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, shared the party’s funds shortly after the President was defeated in the March 28 presidential election. The documents showed details of how much was shared by the members.

5. The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has blamed the defeat of President Goodluck Jonathan on the hate campaigns against his opponent, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari. Metuh, on behalf of the party alleged that Jonathan’s campaign team failed to listen to the advice to stop the hate campaign, disclosing also that the leadership of the party was sidelined in the campaign.

6. The Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu, has fired all political appointees and also dissolved boards of government agencies in the state. This is contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Ndako Idris Kpaki, on Monday.

7. The issuance of Certificate of Return to lawmakers-elect in Osun State became violent on Monday, after some hoodlums attacked Mr. Akinwole Akinwale, the lawmaker-elect from Ife East Constituency. He was attacked by the unknown hoodlums when he was about leaving the state office of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

8. Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Dr Adewale Omirin, has challenged the application before the Federal High Court in Abuja to stop 19 Ekiti State All Progressives Congress, APC, lawmakers from impeaching the governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose. Omirin, in his argument sked Justice Evoh Chukwu to dismiss the anti-impeachment suit lodged before the court by seven members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the Ekiti State House of Assembly.

9. A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, on Monday fixed the final judgment for the trial of a former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, for June 18, 2015. FFK has been facing money laundering charge.

10. The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose Monday sacked one of his Permanent Secretaries in the State Civil Service, Mr. Tunde Alokan. Alokan was the Permanent Secretary in charge of the Office of Establishment. Report says he was fired due to his alleged cordial relationship with the former Governor, Kayode Fayemi.
