Good morning! Here are 10 things you need to know this morning:

1. No fewer than 50 persons have been reportedly killed in Maiduguri’s latest bomb blast, which occurred at a fish market on Baga Road. Report says the blast went off when a couple who disguised themselves as fish customers, detonated the bomb they were carrying, killing them and many others.

2. President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday ordered the withdrawal of soldiers from military check-points, especially non-crisis areas, ordering them to concentrate more on fighting insurgents in order to end the Boko Haram insurgency. The president however said that military check-points can only be maintained where it’s absolutely necessary.

3. Ekiti State governor, Mr Ayo Fayose on Monday denied that he paid himself the sum of N750 million as terminal benefit for his first term tenure. While refuting the. Allegation raised by the APC, he said only a heartless and wicked leader would pay such a huge sum to himself with the ongoing financial crunch.

4. The Police in Enugu State, on Monday denied that it dumped the corpses of 50 young men at the mortuary of the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, UNTH, Enugu, as alleged by the National Human Rights Commission. According to the police through its spokesman, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, the identity of those who dumped the corpses would be made known by the mortuary officials who received the marked corpses.

5. President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday said he took over virtually an empty treasury from former President, Goodluck Jonathan, saying the country is currently owing millions of dollars. He lamented that the situation was making his 100 days in office difficult.

6. Following protests by some PDP members over the emergence of Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo as chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum, Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has cautioned his party against the decision, asking the party leadership to intervene before it further complicate the party’s problems.

7. Gunmen believed to be kidnappers Monday kidnapped a former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure, (FUTA), Prof. Albert Adeoye Ilemobade. The Prof was reportedly whisked away by the gunmen, alongside his gate man from his residence at Ijapo in Akure, the Ondo State capital. The incident happened in the early hours of the day.

8. Leaders of the All Progressives Congress again on Monday could not broker truce between its two rival groups in the Senate over the remaining leadership roles in the NASS. Report says peace meeting organized by Chief John Odigie-Oyegun-led National Working Committee in Asokoro Abuja could not resolve the disagreement, but provided an opportunity for the rival groups to iron out their differences.

9. No fewer than 45 suspects have been arrested in Kogi in connection with kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes in the last three weeks, says the Police. The IGP, Mr Solomon Arase, through the Force Public Relations Officer, CP Emannuel Ojukwu, announced the arrest on Monday at a news conference in Lokokja, the state capital.

10. Gov. Rauf Aregbesola will not sell the state’s helicopter to pay workers salaries, says the All Progressives Congress in the state. The APC Chairman in Osun State, Mr. Gboyega Famodun, at a press conference in Osogbo on Monday, described PDP’s advise that the governor should sell off the helicopter to pay workers’ salaries as ignorant.
