Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Tuesday morning

Good morning: Here are 10 things you need to know this morning:

1. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is currently investigating the allegation of fraud at the Industrial Training Fund, ITF, as its Director-General/Chief Executive Officer, Ms Juliet Chukka-Onaeko is said to have been involved in over N2bn loot allegedly spent on her office renovation as well as Media and Publicity.

2. The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, yesterday, disagreed with the directive by the Senate to abolish the Fixed Charges, FC, introduced by the commission. In a response, the Senate Chairman of NERC, Dr. Sam Amadi, said electricity fixed charges were legal and cannot be abolished.

3. President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday said there was no going back in the war against corruption. While addressing some protesters led by Aisha Yesufu at the gate of the presidential villa, the President , through his Media Aide, Femi Adesina, said that no amount of pressure will stop the ongoing anti-corruption war.

4. Leaders of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, has warned President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently address the alleged marginalization of the Ndigbo as the group will not tolerate further marginalization in Nigeria. The warning was handed down by MASSOB Women Director for Anambra North, Amaka Okafor while briefing newsmen in Onitsha.

5. Report says the gate of the Delta State Election Petitions Tribunal, in Asaba was last Saturday night littered with palm oil and raw eggs, suspected to be fetish concoctions by unknown politicians who are pursuing their petitions before the tribunal. A night security guard at the Delta MultiDoors Courthouse, along Okpanam road, venue of the State Assembly Election Petition Tribunal had disclosed.

6. The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, yesterday, charged President Muhammadu Buhari to jail those found guilty of looting public funds and confiscate their property. The Sultan gave the charge at the National Security Summit 2015 organized by the Nigeria Police and The Sun Newspapers in Abuja.

7. President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday disclosed that the Federal Government was planning on fresh recruitment of about 10,000 men and women into the police force. He made the disclosure at the National Security Summit on Community Partnership Approach to Internal Security and Crime Management, organised by the police in Abuja.

8. President Muhammadu Buhari has accepted the resignation of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Alhaji Dikko Abdullahi. With this development, the former comptroller is expected to proceed on voluntary retirement from today.

9. Director of Publicity, of the now dissolved Peoples Democratic Party’s Presidential Campaign Organisation, PDPPCO, Chief Femi Fani- Kayode Monday took on the Convener of the Coalition of Northern Politicians, Academics, Professionals and Businessmen, Dr. Junaid Mohammed, describing his comments that President Muhammadu Buhari owes Igbos nothing as insensitive and cruel, stating that a repeat of what befell the igbos during the civil war would be disastrous.

10. Activities at the headquarters of the Federal Ministry of Finance were brought to a halt on Monday as officials from the National Industrial Court, Abuja Division, stormed the building to ensure that the court judgement ordering the Ministry of Finance to pay compensation to some workers of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs whose appointments were said to have been unjustly terminated were adhered to.
