1. President Muhammadu Buhari has sent the second batch of his ministerial nominees to the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly. The list, which was submitted to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki on Monday contains notable names such as former Osun State governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, former spokesman of the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties, CNPP, Osita Okechukwu and 13 others.
2. The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has stated that there was no plan to slash pump price of Premium Motor Spirit, better known as petrol, to N57 per litre. The body was reacting to social media reports that the NNPC was planning to reduce the fuel pump price.
3. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested former Benue State governor, Gabriel Suswam.
Suswam was picked yesterday by the anti-graft commission over his alleged involvement in misappropriation of public funds while serving as the state governor.
4. The National Assembly Election Tribunal sitting in Enugu State has sacked Senator Gilbert Nnaji representing Enugu East District on the platform of the People Democratic Party. The court ruled in favour of former Governor of the state, Chimaroke Nnamani, who contested on the platform of the People for Democratic Change, PDC. The development led to celebration in the Coal City State on Monday.
5. Unknown gunmen have abducted five teachers in Agba-Ndele Community Secondary School, Emohua Local Government area of Rivers State.
The teachers were reportedly whisked away from the school premises during the school hours on Monday to an unknown destination by the heavily armed men.
6. Members of the National Assembly from Lagos State have endorsed the nomination of the immediate past Governor of the state, Babatunde Fashola (SAN) as minister.
Senator Gbenga Ashafa, representing the Lagos East Senatorial Constituency, said his others colleagues, Senators Oluremi Tinubu and Solomon Adeola had unanimously endorsed Fashola’s nomination into Buhari’s cabinet.
7. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo led a team of Colombian security experts to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday.
The aim of the meeting was to enable security experts from the South American country share their professional experience in combating terror for more than 50 years.
8. No fewer than sixteen members of an extended family were crushed to death over the weekend in an auto crash that occurred in Kano State.
The incident, which left 11 others with varying degrees of injury, happened on Gwarzo-Kano road at about 1pm. It involved two Hiace buses on their way to Kano for a naming ceremony.
9. The Chairman, Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, Sen. Samuel Anyanwu, says it would soon take a position on the petitions filled against some ministerial nominees.
Anyanwu said that the committee would take a decision on the matter after it concluded the report, which it would present to the Senate within the period of the screening.
10. Spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress, Lai Mohammed has sued his PDP counterpart, Olisa Metuh for libel.
The ministerial nominee is demanding a whooping sum of N500m as damages from the PDP chieftain for wrongly accusing him of embezzling public funds.
