1. Ex-Niger Delta militant leader, Government Ekpemulopo, alias Tompolo, has taken a legal action against the Federal Government, challenging the N45.9bn fraud charges filed against him. Tompolo, through his lawyer, Mr. Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, is seeking an order, restraining the Federal Government and its agencies from proceeding with the N45.9bn fraud charges filed against him.
2. The Kaduna State Government on Monday disclosed that about 347 corpses were given a mass burial at the Mando cemetery after soldiers clashed with the Shiite’s sect in Kaduna last year. The Secretary to the Kaduna State Government, Mallam Balarabe Lawal, made this disclosure when he appeared before the Judicial Commission of Inquiry, stating that the corpses were given a mass burial on December 14, 2015 in a cemetery along Mando/ Zaria Road.
3. The ECOWAS court, on Monday discarded the application of the federal government over its jurisdiction to hear Dasuki’s suit against the government. The ruling by a three-man bench on Monday, held that Nigeria’s Federal Government, represented by Tijani Ganzali, misunderstood the kernel of Dasuki’s case by arguing that it bordered on contempt of the orders previously made by the Nigerian courts, stating that his suit was mainly on the abuse of his fundamental human right.
4. The protest by student of the Uniport over new policy of payment of school fees before exams, Monday turned bloody as two persons reportedly lost their lives while several others got injured in the process.
5. Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP, Olisa Metuh, Monday entered his defence in the case of money laundry and corruption brought against him by the EFCC. He, however, presented his first witness who disclosed how former President, Jonathan demanded for corporate account to mobilize Metuh’s team for the 2015 election’s campaign.
6. Former Abia State governor, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu will be re-arraigned at a Federal High Court in Abuja on May 16 on charges bordering on alleged diversion of N5.6bn belonging to the state. This followed the judgment of the Supreme Court delivered on March 18, 2016, which dismissed Kalu’s objection to the charges preferred against him and others.
7. Report has claimed that a lifeless body of a 40-year-old resident known simply as Femi, was on Monday discovered in an uncompleted building in Alhaji Aboki Street in Abaranje area of Ikotun. The report says Late Femi was said to have committed suicide out of frustration and his inability to get married at 40.
8. Students of the Benue State University, Makurdi Monday reportedly shut down the Makurdi/Gboko expressway in protest of the current hike in their school fees. The protest, which lasted over four hours disrupted free flow of traffic on the highway and also crippled business and social activities around the university.
9. Report has emerged that popular man of God, Prophet T.B Joshua of the Synagogue Church of All Nations has been indicted in the controversial Panama Papers. The report has claimed that the Mossack Fonseca, has now revealed that Joshua and his wife, Evelyn, own Chillon Consultancy Limited, a company incorporated on June 20, 2006 at the British Virgin Island (BVI).
10. The abductors of Channels correspondent, Mr Temitope Kuteyi, in Owerri, Imo State have demanded for N15million ransom to set him free. Report says the victim was abducted in his house located along Umuguma Specialist Hospital, Owerri in the early hours of Monday.
