1. President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday met with some former leaders of the national assembly. The meeting, which held at the presidential villa, had in attendance two former senate presidents, Ken Nnamani, David Mark as well as former speaker of the House of Reps, Bello Masari. Outcome of the secret meeting is still unknown.
2. Suspected herdsmen yesterday killed a first class traditional ruler in Plateau State, the Saf Ron Kulere, and Chairman of Bokkos Traditional Rulers’ Council, Sir Lazarus Agai. The traditional ruler was killed while returning from his farm in Sha, along with his driver.
3. Some women in Lagos on Monday staged a protest against the Senator Representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Dino Melaye over his recent verbal attack on Oluremi, wife of former Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu. The women warned the controversial senator to stop harassing a woman in the name of politics.
4. Senate President, Bukola Saraki has declared that he still remains loyal to the All Progressives Congress, APC, despite his ongoing trails. He assured Nigerians that the current government under the leadership of Muhammadu Buhari will fulfill its campaign promises.
5. The Nigerian currency exchanged at N365 to the dollar, maintaining same value during the weekend. However, the naira weakened further against the Pound Sterling, but maintained same value with the Euro as it exchanged at N475 and N400 respectively, from N470 and N400.
6. Chairman, Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Senator Dino Melaye, has told the Senate Committee chairman on Women Affairs, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, that he has moved on over the recent issues that transpired between them last week. Melaye said it would amount to waste of time and energy to continue with the action and that the next thing to do as a great man, was to forget the past and move ahead.
7. The Nigerian Football Association has named Frenchman, Paul Le Guen as the new Technical Adviser of the senior national team, Super Eagles.
The Technical and Development Committee of the NFF announced that Le Guen, would be assisted by Salisu Yusuf, who has been appointed as Chief Coach.
8. Immediate past Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase has faulted the claim by his predecessor Ibrahim Idris that he (Arase) stole over 24 vehicles belonging to the police while leaving office. The ex-IGP in a statement issued from London, United Kingdom, where he went for his son’s graduation also denied getting any letter from Idris since he has been out of the country.
9. Remi Tinubu, wife of National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has written to the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, seeking police protection. Mrs. Tinubu in a letter dated Monday July 18 explained to the IGP that she made the request following threat by Senator Dino Melaye to beat her up.
10. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released a list of 19 political parties that would participate in the September 10 governorship election in Edo.
The list contains 19 male governorship candidates, 15 male running mates and four female running mates.
