1. A Federal Capital Territory Magistrate Court has granted bail to Senator Elisha Abbo in the sum of N5million and two sureties in like sum. Abbo was arraigned in court over alleged assault of a nursing mother. He was arraigned on Monday by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police at Zuba Magistrate Court, Abuja after a video of him assaulting the woman went viral. The Presiding Magistrate, Senior Magistrate Abdullahi Ilellah, said the sureties must have verifiable addresses within the FCT.
2. An Assistant Superintendent of the Nigeria Customs Service, Mr. Nura Dalhatu, has been hospitalized for “showing traits of mental ailment”. This was after he claimed President Muhammadu Buhari asked him to replace retired Col. Hameed Ali, the Comptroller-General of Customs. Dalhatu created a mild drama Monday morning when he resumed office at the Customs Headquarters, Abuja, wearing the rank of a Deputy Comptroller General. According to Mr. Joseph Attah, Nigerian Customs Public Relations Officer, Dalhatu was questioned about his action but replied in a manner that indicated he was mentally challenged.
3. Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra State on Monday urged the Federal Government to investigate the alleged murder of Mrs Obianuju Ndubuisi-Chukwu’s in Johannesburg. Mr Don Adinuba, Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, in a statement advised the Federal Government to prevail on the South African government to act decisively over the murder of the Nigerian, who was the Deputy Director General of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN). Ndubuisi-Chukwu was found dead in her Emperor Palace Hotel room on Thursday, June 13.
4. The Coalition of Public Interests Lawyers and Advocates (COPA) has urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu to ensure justice is served in the case of rape involving Mr Biodun Fatoyinbo, Senior Pastor, Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA).Mr Pelumi Olajengbesi, Convener of COPA in a statement on Monday urged Adamu to ensure the matter was not swept under the carpet and that the suspect should be tried in Lagos where the matter was reported.
5. The Biafra Nations Youth League, BNYL, has stated that suspension of RUGA by President Muhammadu Buhari instead of total cancellation showed that there was no genuineness in the actions of the Federal Government. BNYL claimed that RUGA had been repackaged as National Livestock Transformation by the Presidency as a new strategy to settle Fulani herdsmen across the south, especially the Southeast and South South. The group said it will do everything humanly possible to frustrate the implementation, and retaliate in case of threats against its people in the North.
6. Ten victims of the Ijegun pipeline explosion have been confirmed dead due to the severe and high degree burns they suffered from the inferno. The Permanent Secretary, state Ministry of Health, Dr Titilayo Goncalves, made this known on Monday in Lagos. Goncalves said that three of the victims died at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja while seven died at the Gbagada General Hospital.
7. The Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, has said that former President, Olusegun Obasanjo is Nigeria’s biggest problem. Akiolu stated this while speaking at the public presentation of Battlelines: Adventures in Journalism and Politics, a book by a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Olusegun Osoba.
8. Twenty Kogi governorship aspirants, under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have rejected the indirect primaries adopted by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party. The aspirants said this in a protest letter addressed to the APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole which was read by one of them, Mr Muhammed Ali, at a news conference in Abuja on Monday.
9. Report says the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has put everything in place, to ensure that Video Assistant Referees (VAR), is used from the quarter-finals of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. The technology was not used in the group stages and Round of 16 fixtures. However, it will make its debut on Wednesday, July 10.
10. Some members of the Creative Group Industry on Monday staged a peaceful protest to the Redemption Camp, Lagos -Ibadan Expressway, to make some demands from the General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, to speak up on some developments affecting the masses in the country. The protesters in their hundreds, included maverick Nigerian entertainer and activist, Charles Oputa, popularly called Charly Boy, Michael Parish, Idris Abdulkareem, Baba Fryo and a couple of other upcoming artists are protesting Adeboye’s silence over his silence despite the current state of things in the country.
