Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Tuesday morning

Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. President Muhammadu Buhari has fired four heads of parastatals, agencies and college in the aviation industry. The affected heads are the Managing Director of Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Mr Emma Anasi, and Director General of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Dr Anthony Anuforom. Others are Rector of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, Mr Samuel Caulcrick and the Commissioner of Accident Investigation Bureau.

2. The Federal Government has suspended the controversial law, which led to the resignation of Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye as his church General Overseer in Nigeria. The Corporate Governance Code enacted by the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRC), was Monday in a statement released by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Okechukwu Enelamah, was suspended. The statement said the code was suspended in order to carry out a detailed review of its application.

3. The Nigerian Army has advised members of the public to be cautious of how they entertain strangers. It said Boko Haram suicide bombers now disguised as guests. This was disclosed in a statement on Monday by the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 7 Division, Maiduguri, Borno State, Colonel Mustapha Anka, who advised residents to report any suspicious person to appropriate authorities.

4. President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of retired Major-Gen. Emmanuel Bassey and Mr Ado Ja’afar as Commissioners for the Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prisons Services Board (CDFIPB). The acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Alhaji Muhammadu Maccido on Monday in Abuja, made the announcement in a statement.

5. President Muhammadu Buhari has sacked the Executive Secretary of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, Mr. Jim Obazee. The decision was contained in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu on Monday. According to the statement, the new Council, as approved by the President, has Mr. Adedotun Sulaiman as chairman.

6. Nigerian government on Monday warned the distribution companies in the country to step up their service delivery or give way to other investors. Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, gave the warning at the opening ceremony of the 11th Monthly Stakeholders meeting in Lagos. He urged them to build the trust and confidence that customers’ complaints will be addressed.

7. An official of Diamond Bank Plc, Ademola Oshodi, Monday disclosed to a Lagos State High Court in Ikeja on how he helped Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia wire thousands of United States dollars to a company named Silver Steps Incorporated in the United Kingdom. The banker claimed that he picked up a cash of $120,000 from the judge’s chambers on May 10, 2013, and assisted him to transfer the sum to the UK company in tranches of $10,000 for the period of 12 days.

8. The Niger Delta Revolutionary Crusaders, NDRC, a militant group in the Niger Delta, yesterday, teamed up with the Niger Delta Avengers, NDA, in declaring its plan to resume fresh hostilities in the Niger Delta, following the Federal Government’s alleged decision not to dialogue with the Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF.

9. Council of lmams and Ulama in Kaduna State, has called on the federal and Kaduna State governments to arrest and prosecute persons who made inflammatory statements that instigated the crisis in Southern Kaduna. Addressing newsmen in Kaduna, Monday, the council chairman, Sheikh Abubakar Babantune, said the Senator representing Southern Kaduna senatorial district, Dr. Danjuma La’ah, CAN President, Dr. Samson Olasopu Ayokunle and CAN Secretary General, Rev. Dr. Musa Asake should be arrested and prosecuted.

10. The Naira on Monday appreciated at the parallel market against the dollar after about two weeks of decline. The currency gained 3 points to exchange at N490, from N493 it was on Friday to the dollar. At the Bureau De Change window, the Naira closed at N399, CBN rate, while the Pound Sterling and the Euro traded at N599 and N510 respectively.
