Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Tuesday morning

1. Oil marketers have alleged that officials of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) extorted them during the loading of petroleum products at the depots.

The Vice President, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Alhaji Abubakar Dankingari, who made the claims, said NNPC officials were sabotaging Federal Government’s genuine intentions.

2. The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, ‎Chief John Odigie-Oyegun has stated the the removal of the former Senate Leader, Sen. Ali Ndume has brought lasting peace to the party.

According to him, the replacement of Ndume with Ahmed Lawan was a clear indication that the party is now united and ready to work togethet.

3. There are reports that kidnappers of 10 students and staff of the Nigerian Turkish International College, NTIC, Ogun State have reduced their earlier request for N1.2 billion ransom for the release of the victims to N750 million.

The gunmen, who earlier demanded for N50 million on each student, while N200 million was demanded as ransom on the Turkish Mathematics teacher, Miss Deria in latest demand said they were read to collect the said amount before they could free the victims.

5. Nigeria’s Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo on Monday visited the Niger Delta region where he admitted that the community has long been abandoned by successive governments.

6. Several persons, including a professor was on Monday killed after bomb explosions hit Maiduguri, Borno State.

The first suicide bomb attack occurred at the gate one mosque, while another went off at the entrance to gate five while Muslim faithful were going for the early morning prayers.

7. Mass exodus, Monday hit the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as over 1,000 of its members defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Abia State.

The decampees include former Minority leader of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Humphrey Azubuike; Major Gen. Ogbonna Okoro (rtd); former Transition Committee Chairman, Bende council, Hon Ben Kalu; former member of the State House of Assembly, Hon Chidi Nwosu and Chief Uche Akwukwaegbu.

8. National Secretary General of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, Apostle Emmanuel Nuhu Kure, has asked the Federal Government to create a new state for the southern Kaduna people.

According to him, it would end further clashes between militant Fulani herdsmen and natives in the area.

9. Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of making things hard for Nigerians.

Fayose said that the persistent rejection of the President Buhari’s policies by a National Assembly that is controlled by his own party was an indirect way of passing vote of no confidence on the President and a call to action by the President and his men to take proper stock.

10. On the foreign scene, an eight-year-old son of Gambian President-elect, Adama Barrow is dead. He died on the way to the hospital on Sunday in Manjai near the Gambian capital, Banjul after being bitten by dog.
