1. The Presidency has advised Nigerians against travelling to the United States of America until the new immigration rules become very clear and to the understanding of many. This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Diaspora Affairs, Abike Dabiri-Erewa. She said that Nigerians without pressing reasons to be in the US should avoid the country for now.
2. Father of Miss Stephanie Otobo, the young lady who claimed that she was into a relationship with Apostle Johnson Suleiman of the Omega Fire Ministry has refuted the claim, saying her daughter lied. He said the apostle had never been to his house and does not even know where he lives. He said what the daughter had said about the man of God was similar to what led him to divorce her mother 30 years ago.
3. Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has lamented the death of veteran Journalist, playwright, writer and academic, Mr Onukaba Ojo, describing the incident as shocking and painful. Atiku also revealed that Ojo was in his house a day before the incident happened.
4. Abuja has been hit with yet another fuel scarcity as most filling stations in the capital city had no product to sell to motorists on Monday. Long queues were equally noticed at different filling stations in the city. Report says the scarcity was triggered by the planned strike by the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria which was later aborted.
5. Report says following the shutdown of Nigeria’s first deepwater development, the Bonga field, oil firms and the nation are losing a huge revenue estimated at N3.45bn daily. Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited announced the shutdown on Monday following the commencement of turnaround maintenance on the field.
6. For violating the provisions of the procurement laws of the state, a Yola High Court, yesterday, sentenced the immediate-past governor of Adamawa State, Mr James Ngilari, to five years in prison without option of fine, after he was found guilty. Ngilari, however, said that he would appeal the sentence.
7. The Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose has demanded the immediate return of the N10 million donation he made to to ex-President, Olusegun Obasanjo’s library project with interest. Fayose, who described the library project as one of the greatest frauds ever, said 30 governors under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were compelled to donate N10m each in 2005 to the project.
8. The Federal Government on Monday announced that the Wednesday closure of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja remains unchanged. This was announced during a press conference by the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed. The announcement marked the official closure of the Abuja airport for commencement of repair work.
9. The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, yesterday, continued its intervention in the interbank foreign exchange market by flooding the market with another $367 million to meet request of customers. Acting Director, Corporate Communications Department, CBN, Mr. Isaac Okorafor, confirmed this development, saying the $367 million comprises $144,073,753.07 for 45 days forwards, while $223,060,576.86 was for 60 days.
10. In sports, Chelsea set a new Premier League record in derbies, after their 2-1 win over West Ham on Monday night. Eden Hazard and Diego Costa scored for the EPL leaders, before Manual Lanzini got a late consolation goal at the London Olympic Stadium. Chelsea now have won 21 of their 27 fixtures this season and are 10 points clear on the table.
