1. The President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, on Monday observed that the current anti-corruption war has not yielded much success because of too much sensationalism, tagging the current anti-corruption was as five ”minutes sensationalism.” Speaking at the launch of a book written by Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye tagged the, ‘Antidotes for Corruption: The Nigerian Story’, Saraki said the fight against corruption should focused on deterrence and not punishment.
2. At least 15 persons, including six national women leaders of the Evangelical Reformed Church of Christ, lost their lives in separate auto accidents that happened in Kaduna on Sunday. The report says wife of former ERCC Secretary General and vice chairman Sanga LGC in Kaduna State, Mrs lydia Nuhu Idzi, was among the women that died in one of the accidents.
3. Politicians from south eastern part of the country have been told to stop hoping that President Muhammadu Buhari would appoint an Igbo person as the next Secretary to the Government of the Federation. The United Progressive Party, which gave this advice, asked Ndigbo to stop flooding Abuja for the job.
4. With the $457.3m injection into various segments of the forex market by the Central Bank of Nigeria on Monday, the naira closed at 383 against the United States dollar on the parallel market, ahead of the rate it closed on Friday.
5. The Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State, Abayomi Adesanya, on Monday said that Nigeria under former President Goodluck Jonathan was on the verge of collapse when President Buhari came to the rescue. He said this while calling on Nigerians to pray for good health and quick recovery of President Buhari. Adesanya made the statement while speaking with journalists in Lagos.
6. The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has mandated the leaders of Osun West Senatorial district to pick a candidate for the replacement of late Senator Isiaka Adeleke from his Ede hometown. APC State Chairman, Prince Adegboyega Famodun, on Monday, gave the directive during Osun West Senatorial meeting of Elders forum of APC which held at the party’s secretariat, in Osogbo, the state capital.
7. The House of Representatives has given the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, 24 hours to appear before its committee on Public Procurement. The lower legislative chambers gave the directives over alleged abuse and breach of the Procurement Act, 2001.
8. Report says three persons have been feared killed in an internal crisis that broke out at Ogbai community in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue state Monday morning. Among the victims, was one Mr. Aboje Otene, otherwise known as Philosopher, a youth leader in Agatu community. 9. Osun State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Titi Laoye-Tomori, Monday appeared before the coroner ordered by Governor Rauf Aregbesola to probe the death of Senator Isiaka Adeleke. She told the coroner that she decided to sit beside Adeleke at the event before his death because of the humility exhibited by him when he received her by the side of her vehicle.
10. The Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign States of Biafra, MASSOB, on Monday advised Igbos against obeying the sit-at-home order issued by fellow pro-Biafra group, the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on May 30, a day it has scheduled to mark Biafra day. Addressing journalists in Aba, MASSOB Director of Arts and Culture, Abia zone, Reuben Ekpem alongside MASSOB’s Director, Conflict/ Reconciliation, Obed Chiedozie and Director of Information, George Ejiofor, said IPOB’s directive to Biafra people to sit at home on May 30, is an indication that the group is determined to inflict more pains on Ndigbo.
