1. A former governor of Lagos State and national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu has warned the Nigerian military against any attempt to hijack power from the current government.
Tinubu asserted that there is no place for the military in Lagos and the nation at large, adding that Nigeria has gone far beyond coup.
2. Still on the alleged military plans to upturn the current government, elder statesman and a former governor of the old Kaduna State, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, has warned the military personnel against throwing the nation into confusion in their bid to hijack power.
Musa asked Nigerians to resist any attempt to remove the current democratic government in the country by force.
3. Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose has declared that he would contest the 2018 gubernatorial election so that he could serve his term which was truncated through what he termed ‘orchestrated conspiracy’ of illegal impeachment in 2006.
Fayose, who insisted that his impeachment in 2006 was illegal, said he would then have to approach same court to interpret what the ruling means and also consider seeking a re-election in 2018.
4. Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, has vowed to resign if Nigeria continues to import fuel by 2019.
The minister assured that before then, all refineries would be functioning, adding that he was committed to also deliver a future for oil for Nigeria.
5. The Kano State House of Assembly, has suspended the probe of the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II.
Speaker of the State Assembly, Kabiru Rurum, who announced this during plenary on Monday, said the action followed the intervention of some prominent Nigerians.
6. The Supreme Court on Monday trashed the appeal of the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ali Modu Sheriff seeking to stop the appeal against him.
The Justice Walter Onnoghen-led court consequently granted the appeal filed by the sacked Caretaker Committee Chairman of the party, Ahmed Makarfi on behalf PDP, appealing the judgment of the Appeal Court.
7. Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom has assented to the bill prohibiting Open Rearing and Grazing into law.
Ortom, at a stakeholders’ meeting in Makurdi, on Monday, said his administration would do all it would to protect the state from intruders and criminals.
8. Tonye Princewill, Labour Party gubernatorial candidate in Rivers State during the 2015 general elections has dumped the party.
Princewill formally tendered his resignation on Monday, explaining that he did so because he wants to make more impact in the lives of his people.
9. The Lagos State Government has terminated its contract with investors for the building of the proposed N844billion Fourth Mainland Bridge.
The State’s Commissioner for Waterfront and Infrastructure Development, Adebowale Akinsanya, who made this disclosure, while speaking to newsmen in Alausa on Monday, said the government was considering proposals from foreign investors in the US and the UK, to accelerate the commencement of the project.
10. Transparency International has been issued 72 hours ultimatum to vacate the country over its recent report that former Nigerian military chiefs stole as much as $15 billion through fraudulent arms procurement deals.
Comrade Ibrahim Abubakar, the Executive Director, Save Humanity Advocacy Centre, a human rights group, said the organization’s excesses had become unbearable and it should leave the country without delay.
