1. Two people have been killed in Ikwerre Local Government area of Rivers state by suspected cult groups. One of those killed was a man identified as Uchechukwu was shot dead at Igwuruta community in Ikwerre Local Government Area. Another unidentified middle-aged man was attacked and killed by suspected cultists at Ipoo community in Ikwerre Local Government area.
2. A Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, on Monday granted bail in the sum of N500,000 to 50-year-old businessman, Ahmed Echoda, who allegedly gave false information to the Police about Sen. Ike Ekweremadu’s guest house. The judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, also ordered the defendant to provide one surety who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and adjourned the case until July 20 for hearing.
3. Former Minister of Health, Professor Babatunde Osotimehin is dead. Osotimehin, who was a Minister from December, 2008 to March 2010, reportedly died on Sunday while watching Television after church service. He was 68 years of age.
4. London’s Metropolitan Police has revealed the identities of two persons among the terrorists that carried out the London attack. One of the attackers, according to the police, was 27-year-old Khuram Shazad Butt. The other was a 30-year-old Rachid Redouane, who is also known as Rachid Elkhdar.
5. A Jos High Court presided over by Justice Felomina Lot has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of a former Speaker of Plateau House of Assembly, John Dabwan. Lot gave the order after revoking the bail granted Dabwan in a case of issuance of a dud cheque in the sum of N3.8 million. Dabwan allegedly issued the cheque to a Jos-based businessman, Theophilus Omhagie.
6. The Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, has disclosed that some Computer-Based Test centres gave bribes to some officials, to falsify the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, results. Oloyede disclosed this at a briefing yesterday in Abuja. He said the JAMB officials had to collect the bribes for security reasons, disclosing that the officials reported the cases to the board.
7. The Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, has ordered investigation into alleged misconduct by soldiers, in an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Bama, Borno state. Some of the women had accused some soldiers and members of Civilian JTF, of demanding sex in exchange for favours. They also claimed some of their husbands were being detained in military barracks and Maiduguri maximum prison for offences they did not commit.
8. A report has claimed Nigeria’s oil production declined to an average of 1,388 million barrels per day (mbpd) in the first quarter, Q1’17. According to the report, data obtained from the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC, has revealed.
9. Another report on the economy shows that The nation’s total indebtedness to foreign and local creditors has reached N19.16tn. This is according to the Debt Management Office. The development shows a rise from N1.8tn to N17.36tn recorded at the end of December 2016.
10. In sports, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) yesterday cancelled its initial plans for the Super Eagles to train in Abuja before departing to Uyo ahead of the 2019 AFCON qualifying match against South Africa. The team consequently flew out to Uyo yesterday where to commence their final preparations for the game.
