1. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has posted the notice of verification for the recall of the lawmaker representing Kogi west senatorial district, Dino Melaye. In the notice posted at the commission’s office in Lokoja, capital of Kogi state on Monday, INEC said the verification would hold across all polling units in the senatorial district on August 19.
2. Etisalat has ended its management contract with its Nigerian arm. It announced on Monday that it was pulling out of Nigeria as all UAE shareholders of the company had left the country and exited the board and management of the Nigerian brand. This decision follows its $1.7 billion loan talks that collapsed.
3. Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Presidency cabal is in a state of dilemma as to whether to bring President Muhammadu Buhari back to the country with his present state or leave him in London. He said the President has now become a bad business for the cabal that imposed him on Nigerians.
4. A former governor of Cross Rivers State, Donald Duke, has indicated interest to still be Nigeria’s number one citizen. Duke said he would still take a shot at the presidency, if the opportunity presented itself. He spoke at a programme titled “The Nigerian Symposium for Emerging Leaders,’’ held in Lagos.
5. A chief in Gbaramatu kingdom Godspower Gbenekama, has stated that the people of the Niger Delta will resume attacks on oil facilities if Nigerian government continue to ignore them. Gbenekama, who spoke on behalf of the people of the region, said no one can be assured that nothing will happen in the Delta as the current peace in the region is grave-yard kind of peace.
6. Report has it that five children comprising three girls and two boys died after eating allegedly poisoned cucumber fruits. The incident occurred in the village of Amana in Becheve close to the Obudu Ranch Resort in Obanlikwu local government area of Cross River State. It’s suspected that an unnamed neighbour poisoned the fruit.
7. Super Eagles coach, Salisu Yusuf, has announced the list of players for their African Nations Championship qualifier against Togo or Benin Republic. In the list are Enyimba’s Mfon Udoh and MFM FC’s Stephen Odey, Dele Ajiboye, Kano Pillars’ Jamiu Alimi and MFM’s Sikiru Olatunbosun.
8. The Industrial Court, Akure, Ondo State, Monday, sentenced the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo, Dr. Liasu Ahmed, to one month imprisonment. Ahmed was sued by the FMC Owo chapter of the Association of Residents Doctors (ARD) on his alleged refusal to pay its members their October and November 2016 salaries. The court granted the prayers of the plaintiffs and ordered the CMD to pay them one of the two months salaries.
9. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, on Monday denied allegations that it was “harassing” a former first lady, Patience Jonathan. A statement by its spokesperson, Mitchell Ofoyeju, the anti-narcotics agency said it does not harass citizens.
10. Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, on Monday, said God had answered Nigerians’ prayers for the quick recovery of her ailing husband, Muhammadu Buhari. She referred to the cabals in government as ‘’hyenas” and jackals” who would soon be ejected from the government. She made the post on her Facebook page while responding to an earlier post by the senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani.
