1. Erstwhile Provost Marshal of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Idada Ikponmwen (rtd) has said the removal of President Muhammadu Buhari through a military coup is still possible.

He said this could only be averted if the Federal Government finds a solution to the sense of inequality felt by the people.

2. Justice Yusuf Halilu of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has issued an ex-parte order directing that the Paris-London Club Refund bank accounts of Abia, Cross River, and Delta states be frozen.

This order came amidst allegations that the governors of the three states preferred payment to family members, friends, and cronies in the guise of settling the fees for consultancy services at the expense of the real consultant progenitor of the Paris-London Club Refund.

3. Gunmen yesterday morning kidnapped 15 occupants of a Lagos-bound bus belonging to God is Good Motors.

The passengers and driver were said to have been ordered out of the vehicle before they were marched into the bush at Elibrada, Emohua axis of East-West road in Rivers State.

4. Some Nigerians, mostly youths yesterday shutdown Abuja, the nation’s capital in protest against the long absence of President Muhammadu Buhari from the country.

The protesters, led by maverick Area Fada, Charles Oputa, otherwise known as CharlyBoy called on the president to either return to the country, resume office or resign.

5. Wife of Nigeria’s President Aisha Buhari, has returned to the United Kingdom where her husband is currently on medical vacation.

Staff of the Office of the Wife of the President said the First Lady jetted out to the UK, on Sunday.

6. A Lagos Federal High Court on Monday ordered permanent forfeiture of a $37.5m property on Banana Island in the state, belonging to ex- Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, to the Federal Government.

In his verdict on Monday, Justice Chuka Obiozor also ordered that the sums of $2,740,197.96 and N84,537,840.70 realised as rents on the property be forfeited to the Federal Government.

7. The Naira on Monday, crashed at the parallel market, Investors and Exporters (I&E) window.

The currency depreciated by N1 in the parallel market as the exchange rate for the market rose to N366 per dollar from N365 per dollar last week Friday.

8. DAILY POST, Nigeria’s leading news portal, was on Monday announced as the Best Online Newspaper in the country.

The award, by Borno State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, was in recognition of the newspaper’s coverage of government efforts and achievements in reconstruction and rehabilitation and resettlement of victims affected by Boko Haram insurgency.

9. Pope Francis has condemned the Sunday’s attack on St. Philip’s Catholic Church in Ozubulu where scores of persons were killed.

The Pontif i‎n an August 7 telegram addressed to Bishop Hilary Paul Odili Okeke of Nnewi, said he was “deeply saddened to learn of the loss of life and injury following the violent attack in Saint Philip’s Catholic Church, Ozubulu.”

10. The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has accused the leaders of the apex Igbo organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, of being behind the attack on worshipers at St. Philips Catholic Church, Ozubulu in Anambra state.

According to Kanu, Ohanaeze leadership was hell bent on thwarting their struggle.
