1. The Edo State House of Assembly, Monday, impeached its Speaker,Honourable Justin Okonoboh. Honourable Okonoboh has since been replaced by Honourable Kabiru Ajoto as the new Speaker. But the House Majority Leader, Foly Ogedengbe rejected the impeachment, describing it as illegal, also debunking report that the House formed a quorum.
2. Real Madrid’s forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, has been slammed with a five-match ban, for pushing referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea during their 3-1 win over Barcelona on Sunday. The Portugal captain will miss one match for the red card, while the four-match punishment is for the push.
3. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that it had received a petition for the recall of Mr Abubakar Kuki, a member of Kano State House of Assembly. This was contained in a statement on Wednesday by Adedeji Soyebi, National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Education Committee.
4. The Naira on Monday crashed further against the dollar at the parallel market. The currency exchanged at N367 per dollar. The Naira lost one point from N366 posted on Friday, while the Pound Sterling and the Euro closed at N476 and N432.
5. No fewer than 179 people have been reported dead, while others were left stranded in a mudslide that occurred in Sierra Leone. Report says a hillside in the Regent area collapsed following heavy rain, leaving many houses covered in mud and residents stranded in the early hours of Monday.
6. The Ekiti State Police Command has demolished a house allegedly used by suspected kidnappers and ritualists in Ilawe-Ekiti, the headquarters of Ekiti South West Local government area of the state. The demolition took place before residents of the community and was supervision by the Alawe of Ilawe -Ekiti, Oba Ajibade Alabi.
7. The Federal Government has confirmed it is in talks with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), after it embarked on an indefinite strike on Sunday The Director of Press, Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs. Chinenye Ihuoma, disclosed that negotiations were ongoing between the government and the union on the issues arising from the 2009 agreement and the MoU of 2013.
8. The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and marketers in the downstream oil sector have said that there is no plan to increase pump price of fuel as widely reported. The corporation’s Group General Manager for Public Affairs, Mr. Ndu Ughamadu, told newsmen that the nation’s oil firm had never complained about the financial burden it shouldered in ensuring that the country has enough of the product.
9. The Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, has claimed that the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) was deceiving the Igbos in the name of Biafra. Okorocha said that IPOB activities would only result to loss of trillions of property and assets owned by the Igbos in the country, adding that no sane person would talk of division in Nigeria.
10. The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of six policemen over offences ranging from defilement, attempted murder, robbery and extortion. The officers were arrested in different parts of the state alongside two civilian accomplices. This was disclosed by the Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni during a briefing at the Police Officers Mess, Ikeja, on Monday.
