1. A Kaduna High Court, on Monday granted Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN, leave to travel abroad for medical treatment. The court granted the incarcerated IMN leader and his wife, Zeenat, permission to travel to India for treatment. In his ruling, Justice Darius Khobo ordered officials of the state government to accompany El-Zakzaky during his trip abroad. Justice Khobo, however, did not specify how long they are to stay in India.
2. The Department of State Services (DSS) on Monday confirmed that it had received the order granting Ibrahim El-Zakaky, leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), leave to travel to India for medical treatment. Dr. Peter Afunanya, DSS Public Relations Officer, said this in a statement issued Monday night and made available to DAILY POST. He disclosed that the Shiites leader will be released immediately.
3. The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Movement, PDM, in the 2019 general elections, Pastor Aminchi Habu, on Monday, revealed the terms of agreement he reached with President Muhammadu Buhari, that led to the withdrawal of the petition he filed at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal. Habu said he decided to terminate hearing of the petition, after Buhari made promises to him, to improve the security situation in Christian dominated regions of the North such as Southern Kaduna. He said Buhari also assured him that he would pay more attention to the provision of infrastructure and social amenities to the areas.
4 Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, on Monday joined other Nigerians calling for the immediate release of the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (ACC), Omoyele Sowore. Sowore was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) over a planned revolutionary protest which held in some states. Adams said the detention was an abuse of human right, stating that the planned revolutionary protest cannot be said to be treasonable since it was yet to be implemented as at the time Sowore was arrested.
5. President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday thanked millions of Nigerians, who deliberately ignored calls on social media to join a phantom ‘revolution’ but instead went about their businesses. The President made his feelings known in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, in Abuja on Monday. Buhari said he was humbled by the support, ”not for himself, or the governing party – but for the democratic values of modern-day Nigeria.” He, however, acknowledged that there were few hundred persons, who for their own reasons, decided to engage on the protest march against national interest.
6. A Police Inspector, identified as Lasisi was on Monday shot dead in Isua-Akoko in Akoko South-East Local Government Area of Ondo State by unknown gunmen. DAILY POST gathered that the gunmen attacked the police officer and a sergeant, who was with him while on surveillance patrol within the community. After the attack, the gunmen made away with his rifle while the officer who was with him escaped death by whiskers.
7. Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, on Monday night, broken silence on his arrest by the Department of State Services, DSS, over the RevolutionNow protests. He expressed gratitude to Nigerians and the international community for their support, urging them to pour out to the streets in protest against bad governance in the country. The AAC founder and presidential candidate said this during the visit of the “Take It Back Movement” to the DSS facility where he is being held.
8. A former Politics Editor at Daily Trust newspaper, Ibrahim Dan-Halilu, was on Monday arrested by the Department for Security Service (DSS) in Kaduna for allegedly supporting the activities of RevolutionNow in a Facebook post. The group, which is agitating for revolution movement in Nigeria, was convened by Omoyele Sowore, Publisher of Sahara Reporters and Presidential Candidate of Action Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2019 election. It was gathered that Dan-Halilu a former staunch supporter of President Muhammadu before the 2015 elections was once a communication specialist with USAID, Information Assistant at the US Embassy and a Regional Communication Specialist for Family Health. Operatives of DSS, it was gathered stormed Dan-Halilu’s residence in Rigachikun, Kaduna State, on Monday night and whisked him away at about 2am.
9. A resident pastor of the Living Faith Church in Romi New Extension, a suburb of Kaduna metropolis, Jeremiah Omolara, was on Monday confirmed killed by yet-to-be identified gunmen. The incident, which happened along the dreaded Kaduna-Abuja road when the pastor, his spouse and son were travelling to Abuja, had Omolara’s wife abducted. The gunmen opened fire on their vehicle, killing the pastor on the spot and taking the wife to the bush. However, the son was said to have escaped unhurt.
10. The Middle Belt forum on Monday accused Fulani herdsmen of committing genocide against fellow Nigerians in the country. President of the Middle Belt Forum, Dr Brutus Pogu, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to proscribe herdsmen. Pogu accused herdsmen of committing genocide on the middle belt people and hiding under the aegis of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association.
