1. The Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, has suspended the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Mounir Gwarzo.
According to Adeosun, the suspension is in line with the Public Service Rules (PSRs) 03405 and 03406 to allow unhindered investigation of financial allegations leveled against Gwarzo.
2. The embattled former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, has claimed that President Muhammadu Buhari okayed his meeting with the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.
According to Maina, who is currently wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Malami paid him a visit during which he (Maina ) told him about the N1.3 trillion.
3. President Muhammadu Buhari, on Wednesday said there is nothing he can do for anyone who dares the desert and Mediterranean without documents to prove that they are Nigerians.
He disclosed that the Federal Government was hoping to evacuate identified stranded Nigerians in Libya and other countries in order to bring them back to Nigeria and rehabilitate them.
4. The Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has expressed sadness over the federal government’s failure to unite the nation after the civil war.
He also expressed dismay over the inability of many citizens to acquire a true Nigerian identity many years after independence despite all the measures introduced by successive governments to bring about national unity.
5. A respected clergy in Kogi State, Rev Fr. John Femi Ogunleye, has bemoaned the leadership style of Governor Yahaya Bello, saying that God is angry with the governor.
Oguleye said the state has been suffering under previous governments but Bello’s reign has brought more pains to the people of the state.
6. Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano has denied a recent claim by Chukwuemaka Ojukwu Jnr, son of the late Igbo warlord, Chief Chukwuemeka Ojukwu that he approached the latter to return to the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.
Ojukwu Jnr shortly before the Anambra State governorship election had left APGA and joined the All Progressives Congress, APC.
7. The Senator representing Osun Central Senatorial district and Chief Whip of the Senate, Olusola Adeyeye has suggested that allowances of politicians in Nigeria should be slashed.
He gave this suggestion during debate on 2018 appropriation bill, which continued on Wednesday in the Senate chambers.
8. Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, said yesterday, that he was backing President Muhammadu Buhari for a second term in office because of the President’s integrity, discipline and courage to fight corruption.
Ortom, who spoke in Makurdi, condemned those calling on the President to desist from nursing a second term ambition on health grounds, saying those behind the call were enemies of the country.
9. Chairman, Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, Prof. Itse Sagay, SAN, has described the request by embattled former Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Mr Abdulrasheed Maina, to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari as ridiculous and out of the question.
On Maina’s claim that his life was in danger, Sagay said, the police are going to protect him; and that he should go to the police or the EFCC.
10. Ex Minister of Foreign affairs Ambassador Oluyemi Adeniji is dead. He died in London at the weekend at the age of 83. National President of the Association of Retired Career Ambassadors of Nigeria(ARCAN) Amb. Dapo Fafowora, who broke the news on Wednesday.
