1. South Africa’s President, Jacob Zuma, has resigned from office with immediate effect.
Zuma made announcement in a televised address to the nation on Wednesday evening following intense pressure from his party and compatriots.
2. Some members of the Red Chamber on Wednesday staged a walk-out in protest against the adoption of the report by the Senate and House of Representatives Joint Committee on the Amendment of the Electoral Act.
According to the protesting Senators, despite the adoption of the report by the Senate, they would insist on its reversal.
3. The Senate on Wednesday adopted the amended timetable for the 2019 general election elections.
The red chamber took the decision, after it considered the recommendations of a conference committee report on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Act.
4. Government of Plateau State, Simon Lalong has sacked 747 teachers in the state.
The government, who also announced the reinstatement of 141 teachers dismissed earlier, noted that the sacked teachers were those who failed to tender the minimum teaching qualification certificates as required by the state’s Teaching Service Commission.
5. Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State on Wednesday told the Senate that the Presidency ignored several warnings before the mass killing of his people by herdsmen.
The governor, who appeared before the joint Senate Committee on Police Affairs and National Security and Intelligence, showed the lawmakers copies of his letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and the security chiefs before and after the crisis began.
6. The Nigerian Army on Wednesday declared the elusive leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau wanted “dead or alive.”
The declaration was made by the Theatre Commander of Operation LAFIYA DOLE, Maj.-Gen. Rogers Nicholas, during a press conference in Maiduguri, Borno State.
7. Uche Secondus, National Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the party is repositioning to clinch power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 election.
Secondus said his party will take over power through aggressive campaigns ahead of the next general polls.
8. No fewer than 5000 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa state.
They were led by a former State Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Tarila Tebepa; ex Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Engr. Monday Karibo; ex Leader of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Hon. Stephen Erebo; ex member of the House of Assembly, Hon. Francis Otele and a former key chieftain, Hon. Iro Kominibo.
9. The national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has met with the party’s national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, in a move widely seen as the beginning of his new task as presidential negotiator into the crisis bedeviling the party.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, which lasted nearly four hours, Tinubu, said though the party remained the hope of Nigerians, it had lost tremendous goodwill since the 2015 elections.
10. Liverpool on Wednesday night set a new UEFA Champions’ League (UCL) record for an English side.
The Reds thrashed Porto 5-0 at the Estadio do Dragao in the UCL last-16 first leg tie. On the other hand, defending champions Real Madrid came from a goal down to defeat Paris Saint-Germain 3-1 in their Champions League Round of 16 clash on Wednesday night.
