1. President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday made a comparison between his government and that of Jonathan regarding the two main abductions of schoolgirls in the northeast, saying his administration responded better than the immediate past government to the February 19 abduction of 110 students of Government Girls’ Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State. He said the former President, Goodluck Jonathan’s administration was slow in response to a similar abduction in Chibok, Borno State.
2. Missing final year student of Accounting at the Osun State University, Yemi Olaniyan has reappeared, saying he went to Ilorin to engage in menial job in order to raise his school fees which he lost to ponzi scheme, MMM. He, however, exonerated the police, saying he slept at a shopping complex and not the Ojodu Police Station as alleged.
3. The trial of Billionaire kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, a.k.a Evans, continued on Wednesday before the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja. The prosecution played a video which captured Evans confessing to kidnapping and armed robbery. The State Director of Public Prosecution, Ms Titilayo Shitta-Bey, who led the prosecution, demanded that the video clip be played. In the video, the kidnap kingpin was fielding questions from a police investigative officer, Inspector Idowu Haruna.
4. An ex parte prayer to halt the extension of the tenure of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, John Odigie-Oyegun, has been refused by the Federal High Court in Abuja. The court also refused to end the extension of tenures of other officials of the party at the national, state, local government area, and ward levels across the country.
5. The Non-Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities, NASU, have announced the suspension of its three-month industrial action. The National Chairman of the Joint Action Committee, Samson Ugwoke announced the suspension on Wednesday at a press briefing. Members have been directed to resume today, March 15.
6. A candidate of the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, being conducted by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has reportedly committed suicide. The victim identified as Loveth took her life in Ekiugbo, Ughelli North local government area of Delta State. She was said to be displeased with the 163 mark she scored was found dead at her home on Wednesday morning after allegedly taking 3 bottles of sniper.
7. A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Wednesday, stopped the National Assembly from taking further action on the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, 2018. The court, in a ruling delivered by Justice Ahmed Mohammed, asked all parties in the matter to maintain status quo antebellum, at least between now and the next adjourned date.
8. Two soldiers were on Wednesday killed in Plateau State when local vigilante and herdsmen clashed at Dong village, a border town between Basa and Jos South Local Government Area of the state. The soldier swere serving with Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), also known as the Special Task Force (STF). Spokesman for OPSH, Major Umar Adams, confirmed the killing yesterday.
9. Report says three persons were Wednesday evening injured in an accident involving the convoy of Governor Godwin Obaseki. The accident occurred along the Benin-Lagos Expressway in front of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH). The accident occurred as a result of brake failure of the bus carrying the press crew of Governor Obaseki. Three vehicles including the bus conveying journalists were badly damaged.
10. The Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, has imposed a dusk to dawn curfew on Bassa Local Government Area of the state with immediate effect. The state government announced the curfew on Wednesday after another attack in the state. A statement by the government said curfew follows the attack in the morning in Dong and Rafiki communities, which led to loss of lives and destruction of property.
