1. The embattled Senator representing Kogi West in the National Assembly, Dino Melaye, was yesterday granted bail by a Kogi State High Court sitting in Lokoja.
The Kogi State Chief Judge, Justice Nasiru Ajana, in his verdict, said he had considered the health situation of the third defendant, hence the need to admit him to bail with the sum of N10 million with one surety.
2. The Nigerian government on Wednesday called on Nigerians to keep faith on the release of Leah Sharibu, the Dapchi Christian girl still in Boko Haram captivity.
Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed in a statement said the government was still negotiating her release with terrorists.
3. The Nigerian Senate, on Wednesday, passed the 2018 Appropriation Bill, six months after its presentation.
President Muhammadu Buhari, had at the joint session of the National Assembly, presented a proposed budget of eight trillion, six hundred and twelve billion, two hundred and thirty-six million, nine hundred and fifty-three thousand, two hundred and fourteen naira (N8,612, 236,953,214) to the lawmakers
4. Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN, have declared their leader, Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, and his wife, Zainab, missing.
The group said their whereabouts were yet to be ascertained after they were forcefully’ transported to Kaduna Court from Abuja.
5. President Muhammadu Buhari has sent his greetings and best wishes to Muslims in Nigeria and across the world as they commence the 30-day Ramadan fast.
In his message to the nation on the beginning of the Ramadan, the President stated that fasting was not just for one to stay hungry or thirsty, but an opportunity to strive for inner purification and self-accountability.
6. The lawmaker representing Delta Central, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, on Wednesday morning resumed at the Senate chamber.
After signing the attendance register, he proceeded to the upper legislative chambers which began shortly after the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, said the opening prayers.
7. The death has been announced of popular actress, Aisha Abimbola.
The actress was reported to have died from breast cancer, according to her colleague, Bisola Badmus.
8. Combined troops of Operation Lafiya Dole and the Cameroonian Defence Forces have killed 15 Boko Haram insurgents in separate encounters in Southern Lake Chad Basin. Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu, Deputy Director Public Relations Theatre Command Operation Lafiya Dole said, troops neutralized the insurgents whilst conducting operations to clear remnants of Boko Haram insurgents in the Lake Chad Islands and surrounding villages of northern Borno yesterday.
9. The Nigerian Air force on Wednesday announced that it has commenced the conduct of Operation “Thunder Strike” to flush out remnants of the Boko Haram sect still hiding in selected locations in the North East. The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, disclosed this to newsmen during a working visit to Maiduguri.
10. The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) said it has killed many fleeing insurgents in its ongoing “Operation Thunder Strike’’ against the Boko Haram terrorists in the North Eastern part of the country. The NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, AVM. Olatokunbo Adesanya, who confirmed this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja, said the air interdiction commenced on Monday.
